Forums - General - To all Atheist on this site...

This is not a place to debate creation vs. evolution, or any of that stuff, it's just a question for Atheist to answer seriously.

If it turned out there was a god and that god is not dissimilar to the God of the

fundies, would you oppose him, in the certain knowledge that such opposition has no hope of success

and that by opposing him, in full knowledge of the consequences, choose unending agony post-mortem

as a consequence of what you know to be right? (No getting out of the question by assuming that hell is

a place of hedonism. For the purpose of the question, you must assume they are right.

Just a yes or no, and if you want, an explination why. No debates here.

I wouldn't oppose him....and I doubt many atheists would....most I know are just realists. So if they were against unbeatable odds they'd just give in since there would be nothing else to do.

...

Of course not, i mean....who would want to suffer???? But we all know thats not the case, so....

Atheists don't oppose God. They're not immoral Satan worshipers crusading against Christianity. They just don't believe in a god because of the lack of evidence one exists. Not believing is not the same as opposing.

How would it turn to be a God? Would he appear before all of us and scream "I'm God!!!!!"?. Because if that happened, I'd surrender definitely. Otherwise, how could I surrender my belief (or, more appropiately, my lack of it) if I don't see him? I'm an atheist not because I worship the devil and because I'm evil, I'm an atheist because I see no reason to believe something that has no evidence of being true. If God appeared before me, what choice would I have but to believe in him?

If God or someone PROVED to me there was a God I would believe in an instant but as it stands I see no reason or evidence to.

agnostic, which is me, is a belief that god doesn't exist because there is no evidence. A belief in the possibility at least exists

Athiest is no god at all, irrelevent of whether there actually is evidence. There is no acknowledgment.

Its very discriminatory to exclude someone because they don't believe in god. Im sure thats exactly what they mean by Heaven and Hell.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Yes, I would oppose him. The god that the fundies propose is a monster, and a disgusting creature so far removed from sane morality that siding with him would seem to be a far more wicked act that opposing him. Anybody willing to torture billions for all eternity is not someone I would want to call master. For the ones that don't believe in hell, but rather believe he's going to just kill everyone that disagrees with a specific set of guidelines and philosophies (there are only a couple such as Jehovah's witness' that go by this belief), I still wouldn't be willing to serve someone willing to kill 99.9% of the earth's population to benefit the remaining .1%.

Regardless of what the punishment is I couldn't serve such a monster.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Note: I am not am neither an atheist nor a member of any major religion. I take the stance I think is most scientifically valid and ignore any possibility of a god or gods existing until there is a scientific test to prove or disprove their existence.

Assuming you are talkiing about what is accepted as the current Christian God then I would oppose him for a variety of reasons. Most of these revolve around the inconsistencies in church doctorine and the place it puts many members of society. I refuse to compromise my integrity and act against the greater good of humanity simply because I will be punished for it later for some arbitrary reason.

You should read a translation of "The Divine Comedy" that includes explanations. Great read.
