Note: I am not am neither an atheist nor a member of any major religion. I take the stance I think is most scientifically valid and ignore any possibility of a god or gods existing until there is a scientific test to prove or disprove their existence.
Assuming you are talkiing about what is accepted as the current Christian God then I would oppose him for a variety of reasons. Most of these revolve around the inconsistencies in church doctorine and the place it puts many members of society. I refuse to compromise my integrity and act against the greater good of humanity simply because I will be punished for it later for some arbitrary reason.
