Forums - Sales - Activision suing file-sharers RIAA style

love how big companies can bully the little guys who are UNREPRESENTED.

That`s our legal system at work.

I suppose other cases where people do hire a laywer, Activision`s success rate is rather low;)

Even the RIAA stopped mass hunts like these. Now they are just trying to get governments to corner ISPs and target sharers from there. All this does is actually spread the flame. A gamer somewhere, just a casual, nothing special will hear of this and say "OMG I can just dowlnoad my games for free?" and a new pirate will be born. Now multiply that several times over and you get the effect of the court cases. Another drop in the bucket as to why I don't like Activision as well, Blizzard made a bad move by going with them.

Good, the companies are recuperating some for their losses. Just because it does not stop other people from pirating is not relevant. People still commit murder even though thousands have been put in jail for it. Does that mean we should stop prosecuting murderers? A crime is a crime.

How can their losses even be determined? Evey download does not equal a lost sale.

A crime is a crime, eh? So then why are you asking any questions anyway, because it seems as though you already have all of the answers given to you by the US government. I suppose that when a law is amended or repealed or when you're in different cities/states/countries what you believe automatically changes.

twesterm, you are the biggest tool around. I'm starting to think if a major corporation sent a representative up to you and they kicked you in the nuts that company would become your favorite.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

^ While I don't agree with the statement, I still think it is made of pure gold. I'm still laughing and it has been 2 minutes.

anywho..

I used to pirate a lot.  The past 2 years maybe, I've really not done any.  I went from literally downloading all of the music I listened to, to starting to respect artists and buy CD's.  I went from pirating pc games (even tho I didn't play many), to buying Spore (mistake?) and Diablo 2 a second time just because I lost my first install disc.

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or what..I've just grown out of it.  I critique what I buy a lot more, but I only buy things now as opposed to downloading it.  As a result, I get a lot less, but I'm happier with it.

Someone had a $1,000 fine? That seems paltry in comparison.

Must of ratted out someone else?

At least this is actually punishing the pirates... and stops like... the few people it punnishes from pirating.

Unlike DRMS with do nothing to stop piracy and only punnish the honest consumer.

Oh that's a great gif ;)

I really don't agree with you twesterm. Pirates may be bad but bullying individuals (who usually are the most defenceless that's why they're the ones getting sued) isn't the solution. In my ethics class, I did my paper on the subject. My question was something like that: "Is it correct for big corporations to defend their IP with legal action?" And my answer was no for small pirates. The ones that they need to attack are the ones that make piracy possible: hackers, torrent site admin, huge uploader (such as klaxxon), etc. Attacking the average Joe is terrible for their image and has no effect on piracy whatsoever.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Ouch, even for my pockets a hundred grand can sting, there has to be another way, I'm against pirating however I'm totally against free enterprise and capitalistic pursuits within free markets. The problem with this world is that no one does anything in the product industry for free.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
