Forums - Sony - Sony is phasing out the 60 gb to be replaced by the 80gb

This is very sneaky TBH. But it seems the best way to do things. It's obvious that they see the 80Gb model as being the model they want to push from now on.

The thing I wonder about though, is when will the 80Gb Motorstorm pack come down from $599 to $499?

And where does this leave the new European pack (60Gb, 2 controllers and 2 games)? There is talk that the normal wifi controller will be old and cast aside soon anyway, when the new rumble model comes in. So maybe they are anticipating doing the same in Europe....although I don't know how long these will take to sell.

What I wonder though is this? How many 60Gb models are there in NA? Surely there must be a good 500k-1m or so...and do they honesty expect them to shift in 2-3 weeks?

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

So you seriously think once the limited edition is done they will go ahead and sell the console at 80 gb for 600 dollars alone?

The only question is when the limited edition ends and when the 60 gb consoles sell out.

There is a price cut, it's just they are doing it in a way to minimize losses. The 80 gb is the new SKU and the price of it alone after limited edition is done is 500 dollars.

What the heck special edition are you talking about?  Please correct/enlighten me.  I have not heard anything about the 80gb being "special edition."  If it was announced, then that's just retarded.  People are going to say "Well I'm not paying 600 dollars for it now.  It's not even Special!  It's just 20 extra gb.  Once it's no longer "special edition" then I can merely get it for 500 dollars!"

That would seriously discourage sales.

Ck, they could absolutely continue selling this at 599. You just assume they will cut the price? That's 100 dollars lost on every console!

I absolutely agree that it's possible, but you assertion is definitely not certain. Please don't phrase it that way. Obviously it could be the case, but there is definitely reason not to do so (again: 100 dollars!).

haha, I caught this too. Nowhere is it stated that the 80gb will drop to 500. That was a nice little fanboy dream spin you put on at the end.

What about limited edition do you not understand? Fanboy dreams huh?

You obviously dunno the 80 gb comes with a game that is the limited edition pack in. You see a console for 500 dollars then a console for 600 for more space and a game that's your value.

I did know that the 600 dollars PS3 comes with Motorstorm.  Your point is mute.  That is not value.  a 60 dollar game and the absence of the emotion engine is not value.  20 gigabytes sure isn't value either.  That is not 100 dollars. Sorry.  Please respond to the rest of my post and not just the fact that I forgot to mention motorstorm.

Uh...Avalach21...it is officially called a "limited edition" so I don't know what you're missing here...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the only extra thing in the current 80GB edition (beyond the extra 20gb) is Motorstorm, correct? If it is a special edition and when they start making the normal edition 80GB without Motorstorm, why would taking a game out drop the price $100?

60 dollar game + 20 gb of space might not be exactly 100 dollars of value but it's not exactly far off.

Also the average buyer has no idea about the emotion engine and couldn't care less, especially that even without it like almost all PS2 games play on the PS3.

Ahh, link/thread madness :)

Look, all I know is what I have read:

1/ 80Gig model will launch in about 1 month - for $599

2/ 60Gig is no longer being produced - once its sold out, its gone

3/ Sony predict that 60Gig model will sell out in about 1 month (may take longer)

...

So in conclusion...

1/ For the next month, you can buy a $499 60Gig PS3

2/ After one month, you can buy a $599 80Gig PS3 (plus game)

It wouldn't make SENSE to reduce the price of the $599 pack - pretty much just as it comes out. They can't sell a 80Gig model for $499 (too cheap compared to package), or even $549.

Maybe once the pack has been out for a month or two, they can drop the add-in game - and drop the price (again) to $499.

Or throw an extra game into the bundle.

(what a mess!)
