Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft CEO about the Wii

Total shock, Ubisoft says something nice about the Wii: Taken from the much larger interview here:

BIZ: The strategy's worked for Nintendo, but do you think they're losing touch with the hardcore base?

YG: I don't think that because the quality of the games on their machine is still very high. The gamers can have great fun with what's coming on the machine. It's just a question of games. When the games are great to play, they play them. You'll always have some people who are unhappy, but I don't think they'll lose those [hardcore] guys.

BIZ: Even from a third-party perspective, Ubisoft isn't exactly bringing hardcore games to the Wii. Tom Clancy titles, for example, are nowhere to be found on Wii.

YG: Tom Clancy will appear at one point. We need to make sure they [look good]. We have engines that were created for the next-generation consoles. We had to re-engineer a certain number of engines to be sure we could use the quality of the machine. Even without the [high-end] graphics, the experience can still be very interesting. ... To make sure we can create good enough products [on Wii] or products better than Nintendo's takes time. That's why you don't see many products, but you will see more and more in the future.

So I guess we can expect Ubisoft to buckle up some time after all? I remain sceptical...

Well, this is expected. After all, Ubisoft loves money.
But, i still wouldn't mention words "Ubisoft" and "quality" in the same centence, unless there's "bad" in between.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

words are cheap, so far they haven't announced anything to back up any claims of bringing quality to the Wii.

Not just quality...

NINTENDO LYKE QUALITY.

I just hope his mouth isn't writing checks that he can't cash.

He's been saying this crud for a year now. We should have a screen shot or something by now. I'll believe when I see it Ubisoft.

The unfortunate thing is they should have already completed re-engineering their game engines for the Wii by now had they been "on the ball" ... Most game engines from the previous generation should still be (fairly) adequate for the Wii but may need some upgrades to take full advantage of the system; being that the Wii has been on the market for 22 months now, and Ubisoft has had a development kit for (roughly) 34 months, don't you think they should have gotten around to upgrading their toolchain by now?

lol better products then Nintendo’s? I take that as an insult F’’k you Ubisoft!!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Definately.

If they had any sort of intention of really providing the console with quality software. This IS ubisoft after all, the company that churns out Z games left, right and center, and the company that sat on a completed version of BiA for like a year (without even the thought of polishing it), just so they could release this remake along-side the brand new next-gen sequels.

Give me a good Splinter Cell game designed ground up for the Wii and I will personally sneak around and choke the life out of all Ubi boycotters.
