Forums - Sales - American Sales for Week Ending September 13, 2008

A price cut never has a huge impact in the short term. Microsoft's price cut will help the 360 to sell a lot in the upcoming weeks. It will be interesting to look at the battle between the PS3 and the 360 in America this holiday. The fact that the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player may help a lot during the holiday were families are more likely to buy an expensive gift for the family/all the kids than during the rest of the year. It's especially true now that the Blu-Ray is the definitive format.

Also, the Arcade 360 might be a good alternative this holiday seasons to families that are not willing to wait in line at 7 o'clock in front of Wal-Mart for their kids.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

There's no way Wii is still completely supply-constrained--I went into Shoppers Drug Mart the other day and they had 5 of them.

While this single week doesn't necessarily mean victory or defeat for 360 or PS3, it means that the battle over the holiday and the coming years is going to a a bloody and vicious one.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

@ Leo-J - I agree, its getting easier to find a Wii. I went into Gamestop 2 weeks ago and got a Wii AND Wii Fit without any reservations or pre-orders. Youre in NYC right? Im over in NJ.Maybe due to the larger populations , the shipments are finally matching demand?

@OP - Im not sure why people thought that the Xb360 price cut would affect the Wii. Technically the Wii and 360 are in different sections of a similar market. Since the 360 is a HD system, its going to have more impact on other HD systems.

Thinking back to some of the predictions about 360 sales post price cut, it seems like a lot of people were off the mark.

Shame about PS3 sales tho

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Does anyone still think that it's possible for the PS3 to make a comeback and win first place this gen...besides Crazzy?

Heck, forget first place... can it even get out of third in America? Some people seem to believe so, but look here:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=XB&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=X360&reg3=America&weeks=148

(Hell, I'd be suprised if that red line can even touch the green)

If the HD market is as limited as I think it is, unless many people are willing to buy both HD consoles, the 360 is constantly eating away at the PS3's potential. If the HD market in America does get saturated early (due to the 360 adoption), the PS3 may decline earlier than expected in America. That would certainly be bad news for the 10 year plan...

True. But MK Wii wasn't supposed to do better than GTA IV and Wii better than PS3/360 according to predictions

it didn't... gt4 is over 10 million, mk wii its around 7 million.

Good to see the Wii sales "coming back in line".

PS3 gets a deserved beating for refusing to be the "Swarovski diamonds of the gaming industry".

I guess the it was a slight exaggeration that 360 sales were up by 600%.
