Yikes!
Those sales are really low.

It wont sell as well as the Xbox 360 version, but since it is the best game to come out on the PS3 in a long long time, it may do surprisingly well. Its just sad that Eternal Sonata is gonna be the gold standard for all and future PS3 games. :(

I'm not the one spinning here Mr. craft. take your trolling elsewhere. Late ports of games have always and will always sell less. Just wait an see when Bioshock come out. I don't think I'd be far off if I say the Wii's DR Chop till you drop wont sell well. - http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=7488®ion=All (doesn't look very impressive to me) |
Metacritic put the title at 79. Very high for a non-FF JRPG in the West. Having played the game (unlike you) I can tell you that it is quite good.
Just like UT3, your Bioshock comparison is useless. The PS3 already has a number of shooters, and has shown a capacity to sell them well.
The fact remains that the argument has long been made by Sony fans that we should assume the PS3 can sell JRPG's in large numbers. Failing an enormous internal multiplier over the first week, we have proof here that for now at least, they were wrong.

Wow, lots of people self-pwned themselves in this thread.

But.. but... but... starcraft said it was impressive and ps3 fans should gobble a year old game up. Why are you saying it was mediocre? |
Many Sony fans in this thread have already stated that they expected more from the title. Western reviewers seem to believe it is better than mediocre.
Did you play it DMeisterJ?

Wait a minute? You are using the Xbox 360's disappointing performance with one game of which there are dozens in the genre on the console to make a comparison to the PS3's horrendous performance with a game that was meant to act as a lighting rod for the JRPG genre? It can no longer be spun Mr Mature. The PS3 just got a very impressive JRPG, and it barely left the shelves it was set up on.

Your hypocracy is driving me nuts. Do you not realize that you've been touting the 360's "success" with JRPGs as only compared to the 2 JRPGs (which were all ports) ever released on the PS3, just to accuse someone of selectively picking out a low selling 360 title as the game that defines console status as a whole? Who's the one nit-picking here?
If you're trying to imply that the PS3 isn't capable of selling JRPGs as well as the 360, then why not make a friendly 4-8 month signature/avatar control bet with me that WKS will outsell ANY 360 JRPG ever created in Japan? But for some reason I doubt you have the courage (or stupidity) to attempt to compare a non-yearold port game of the PS3 to the best the 360 has to offer and expect the 360 to come out on top.
There doesn't need to be any spinning involved. It's obivious why TrustyBell will sell as low as it will in Japan for the same reason why it's obvious that if it were released a year ago, the PS3 version would have outsold it around 2-5 times to amount of the counter part 360 version just like all the other multiplatform Japanese games ever released. The point that you're trying to make a conclusion based off of one port is pathetic.
Hold on to your "PS3 isn't capable of selling JRPGs and the 360 is" claim as long as you can, because everyone (including you) knows that the rope that you're griping is a burning one. I just hope you find a way to spin the facts in time before it all gets shoved down your thoat at once.

Yeah, I played it for about two hours.

Hypocracy?
I thought prior to this only one JRPG had been released on the PS3? And only outside Japan? Enchanted Arms?
My point is, and has always been, that there is no proof whatsoever that the PS3 is capable of selling large quantities of JRPG's. I have not said that it is incapable of doing so, I have said that it offers no proof at this point. There were a lot of high expectations in this thread (mine included). There was also a great deal of hyping of this game (port) all around these boards. It is by all accounts a greatly improved version of an already good game.
What possible purpose would me making a bet on a future game have with regard to my assertion that the PS3 has not currently proved a capability to sell JRPG's in large quantities?
Furthermore, explain why you bolded my text about UT3, then labelled it hypocracy whilst ignoring my entire point that the 30th in a line of shooters on one console =/= the first JRPG.

Oh thats ok I believe you.
But I do find it interesting that you consider two hours sufficient time to pass judgement on a leveling game that can take up to 30 hours or more. Especially a judgement that contrasts with the Western gaming press.
