I'm gonna go with 500k LTD in Japan. This will probably be Level 5's best game yet, and I'm sure Level 5 has gained quite a bit of notoriety in the region because of Dragon Quest and Prof. Layton.

Since this is Sony's first big JRPG, it'll probably be marketed heavily as well. Actually, I expect Sony to heavily market all of Level 5's titles this gen, as their importance to the company has increased immensely over last gen. They are now Sony's main source of JRPGs, because the defacto third party exclusives of last gen are now almost non-existent.

The post you "fixed" stated the rule applied to all RPGs. You made no effort to fix it. The game doesn't have FF/DQ/KH/Pokemon/Tales in its name...hell, it was a new IP...yet it had massive sales in Japan. In fact, if I recall correctly its week 1 sales were listed as over 800k in Japan (before the game mysteriously disappeared from the database). Now THAT is easily more impressive than your little Tales games. :P

Besides, this topic is about a new IP. Excluding new IPs from the list makes no sense at all.

EDIT: I did a database search. Here are some RPG games that sold over 700k in Japan.

Monster Hunter Freedom games (I remember DMJ saying they're not RPGs, but I trust the database more than him, so...)

I don't get why Japanese want old IP but reject most of the new IP they get

 Don't bash the Tales games. I could really care less about whatever else you posted, but do not bash the Tales games.

And no, it won't do 1 million in its LTD in Japan. That would mean that 1 in every 2 (1.5?) PS3 owners would have bought the game, and as far as I've seen the PS3 crowd isn't very hardcore in Japan. I think it would still do respectibly good though. Are there any released JRPGs we can compare this too for the PS3?

I say yes, being released in december in the holiday seoson will give it a nice boost
