Forums - Gaming - id: Rage Not Cut Because of Xbox 360 Limits

I am glad that we will all enjoy a great game. And the fact that 360 owners will change a disc every 10-15 hours while ps3 owners don`t... does not bother me. I do not regret that 360 does not have blueray, because if you want a blueray player you know what to buy.

@ the original post. Here we go with the political correctness again (spin), and I wouldn't doubt that lawyers were involved as well...

Why can't 1up have spinned his words? It's not like the guy from iD has nothing to gain anything from calling his game gimped on all platforms because of the 360 when it's not out yet...

No one has denied this:

"id has previously stated that the Xbox 360 version of Rage will look worse than its PC and PS3 counterparts due to the limitations of the DVD medium. The studio had hoped to circumvent this by spreading the 360 release across three DVDs, though Microsoft's royalty rates apparently make anything beyond two discs financially impracticable."

So it would seems that if the 360 version were finalized on 3 DVD's, the 360 version would be on par with the PC and PS3 versions.  But because id had to go with 2 instead, the PC and PS3 versions had to be downgrade to accomodate equality with the 360 version.

Because we aren't talking about graphics... It's about gameplay... people are claiming that the xbox360 version the reason they will have a gimped game.. but iD is saying it isn't gimped anyway in gameplay.. they were forced to change their original design but it turned out to be the better decision, less loading times, more gameplay in the 2 open area's..  but some won't believe that.. See the Rage is gimped thread.. http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=42115&start=50

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

There's really no denying it. This is going to happen more and more. Who knows how many times it's already happened but we just haven't heard about it.

The fact is that this is not comparable to last gen. In that instance you had a small difference in power which affected nothing but the final polish of the game on the other two systems.

This time around there is a major difference in storage space which will ultimately affect the fundamental size and quality of games. I resent the fact that my gaming experience will be affected by a product that I will never have anything to do with.

All I can say is that at least Sony is pretty prolific with first and second party titles, allowing PS3 owners to enjoy the potential of the product they've purchased.

No!!!  We are talking about limitations of the 360 affecting other versions of the game.  You can cherry pick all you'd like to see just the rosey side of things, but I see things from the "big picture" point of view. When I point out specifics, it's in correct context.

Just wanted to say I admire your ability to ignore the actual context of what he said and reason.  If having 2 wastelands so they can have one on each disk for 360 only isn't changing core design for a single platform I don't know what is.

The bottom line is that this really is the first game where it seems clear due to content the lack of HDD and smaller DVD storage is making itself felt vs PC or PS3 specifications.  That doesn't mean the game was 'gimped' but that does mean the 360 became the lowest specification that had to be catered for.

Also, you should look up 'well he would say that wouldn't he' with regard to why Id are taking pains to not make this sound negative.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Yes.. the 360 effected the others in gameplay... but for the better of it.: "Not loading levels while you drive around is a much better decision regardless of platform." the limitation made them to think better about their game & it turned into a positive.. but many are spinning that into a negative..

Graphicwise the 360 version is gimped but that hasn't effected the others.. like iD says.. the 360 version will look worse..

So the first is relevant..  the second isn't..

He said he rather not have 6 small wastelands and have 2 big ones so there will be minimum loading in the game, nothing to do with EITHER console!

Even if 360 had blue ray,and a build in HDD there STILL would be LOADING you cannot get around that.

Again you are cherry picking.  Hardly any game developer is going to say that the gameplay to their games is bad especially before its release.  Less load time is better than more in itself, but who's to say the better gameplay doesn't makes up for longer load times???  We don't know how well this game will play, and we will never know how it would have been.  You're cherry picking by taking this positive PR as gospel.  And who's to say that this proven 360 limitation will not negatively affect other games in other ways for other platforms.  Last I recall, the graphics in Doom 3 (an id game) enhanced the gameplay.  But just like Redcoat said:

"Who knows how many times it's already happened but we just haven't heard about it."

...and then some.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Game dev's are going to have increasingly tough choices to make. Blu Ray can hold so much more information than DVD9, and people are going to have to get creative to ensure similar game experiences on both platforms.

How much clear should it be? Reasonable is very reasonable. Why can't people accept the fact that PS3 is gradually showing it's added value over other alternatives....I predicted it earlier that bluray would be the decisive factor.....how long developers will restrict themselves within 5 to 10 gb space....remember, games were in kbs, then mbs....they will inevitably require more space.
