In an interview with IGN, Mr Miyamoto talks about the future of the two games.

For some reason IGN split up the two questions into two different articles.

 

In a third article Miyamoto states that Mario and Sonic at the Olympics will include fencing, and a possible one to one sword fighting.

You know...as awesome as 1:1 sword combat would be...even if developers could get it to magically work...

It would be hard to take 1:1 swords and make that into an enjoyable game...

Basically...if I was fighting in a 1:1 sword game with a friend...I'd go as fast as possible, and make lots of stabbing motions to distance myself from my opponent...I can't see how they'd make that a fun game...

That said, a combination of 1:1 swordplay with some good defense gameplay could be the greatest thing ever...


Anyway, just throwing out ideas...I doubt Mario and Sonic will be the game to introduce such swordplay.

I doubt it too. I do think that the developer would see that possible exploit coming and design a really clever way that a player could counter and say disarm the opponent entirely.

Didn't they say that pikmin was in development at E3 2008? According to what Miyamoto says they haven't even started making a new pikmin.
