Forums - Sony - MS's Peter Moore on the PS3 price cut

http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/13505/Peter_Moore_On_PS3_Price_Cut.html

""They've added greater value at the same prices. Which to me is not a price cut. I don't want to be anal, but I read "price cut" and I expected to see USD 399," he added. "When I hear the words "price cut" I expect to see a price cut."

I for one, agree with him. This is not just a matter of semantics, it's logical:

The 60 GB PS3 got a price cut, that's for sure. But if we look at the PS3 as a whole, the minimum price at which you can get it it's still $499, exactly the same as when it was launched.

The ones who are getting a remote and 6 Blu-Ray movies on a limited promotion? I'd say they're pretty smart and went after the value of this promotion. But guess what, they're still paying $500 for a promotion that is not interesting to *everyone* who wants a PS3.

Sales numbers will show how many people want it.

I'm confused. The 20gig PS3 wasn't gimped when it came to games, but it was lacking in the extra features that the 60gig had. It's not like the 20gig and 60gig are the exact same thing, if the 20gig was removed from North America and the 60gig is now $100 off. . . . I don't know, maybe his babble confuses me a bit.

Funny, this coming from the guy who brings out yet another SKU (the limited time Halo 3 one).

$600 to $500=price cut. what is this c*@t talking about

That's the part where he says "They've added greater value in the form primarily of storage"

Really guys, there's nothing you can attack, it seems he worded it pretty carefully and accurately.

PS: The Halo SKU has nothing to do with price drops, so ...

So if the 360 core system got discontinued and the Premium was reduced to $299...this would be viewed as greater value at the same prices?

FACT - The 60GB PS3 was $599 last week.  The 60GB PS3 is now $499....it is a $100 price cut FACT.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Imagine Sony unleashes a 100 GB PS3 tomorrow, starts selling it for $600. At the same time, they throw the 60 GBs in the trash, and drop the price of the 80 GB PS3 to $500.

The next day, they unleash a 120 GB PS3 , start selling it for $600. At the same time, they throw the 80 GBs in the trash, and drop the price of the 100 GB PS3 to $500.

Wow, PS3 had two price cuts in two days!

Guys, it's a distinction between dropping the price of a MODEL and dropping the price of a CONSOLE. It's two different things.

I think Peter Moore should worry about his own camp first and foremost seeing as at least 11.6 million 360's have a built in defect....and when people start asking for replacements and maybe even their money back when they've had enough....he will have more to worry about!

I think he agrees that you get more bang for your buck than you used to, he's just saying the prices haven't changed. To a person like you, it's clear that the PS3 gives you more stuff now than it ever did, but to a layman who doesn't know how big (or small) the difference is between each SKU, this is what they'll see:

March 2007

PS3 price points 599/499

August 2007

PS3 price points 599/499

See the problem?
