Shocking, the Japanese want a FF game...
Judging by that list, the PS3 could actually see decent sales in the future as they seem quite thrilled about some of the upcoming software!

But that's what it is: a spin-off.

Ahem. What I find interesting about this is that DQ usually beats FF in Japan (even though FF beats DQ everywhere else). This is an interesting role reversal.

A spinoff developed by a very talented team (thanks for KH2, btw), and with a high budget. Doesn't sound like much of a spinoff.

On topic: the PS3 has a hell of a spike coming its way.

Please don't get too exited about the Famitsu Most Wanted list. It represents a very small and hardcore part of Japans gaming population, it has been proven time and time again that it hardly predicts any sale success.

That being said, if FFXIII remains PS3 exclusive in Japan it will definitely boost the sales, but probably only for a small period.

Well, I still see a major spike coming. Nothing is consistent over there though. Look at how games sell on their first and second week and how low they sell after that.

Ahh, the Famitsu Most Wanted list. Ever the rallying cry of the "hardcore" gamer. It's been proven time and time again that the list bears little resemblance to actual sales data. For example, here's the same list from May 2007:

Only one Wii game in the top 10, and six PS3 games! Surely Nintendo was doomed! Then the games came out, and I think we all saw the effect that Metal Gear Solid, Everybody Golfs, and Devil May Cry had on the Japanese market (short sales bursts that lasted 2-3 weeks). Monster Hunter 3 ended up being canceled for PS3 and switched to Wii. Furthermore, the list entirely missed the actual top-selling games of the past 12 months: Wii Fit, Monster Hunter Portable 2G, and so on.

It's useful to see what the obsessive gamers in Japan are interested in, and nothing more than that.
