Forums - Sony - Reistance 1 campaign is awful

I agree with the above post, most others are pretenders to the throne.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Your judgments of Resistance 1 are a bit harsh for someone who never really liked console FPSs to begin with. Many wanted this game to be oh so amazing when it simply was a quick launch title. Insomniac did this game in a year's time span. They were still learning the PS3 architecture.

The Story: was good, nothing amazing but good. It was told in a narrative which I did not particularily like. I would have rathered Hale talk. I did like the way the story was also partially told through scrap paper from a soldier's journal. It was conveying the brutality and the fear the world had for the chimera.

The Gameplay: was AWSOME! I have never had an issue with stupid AI such as them standing in one spot. When they have taken a few bullets they usually retreat behind cover(very often mind you it was kind of annoying). They also usually come in huge droves that overpower you so they never need to hide. I felt the AI was fairly equal with most FPS games. I feel you might have been embelishing a little on how awful the AI is. The weapons were also a great feature. So what if you only end up using about 2 weapons most of the time. You only can fire one weapon at a time anyway, Carbine/BullsEye is all you would need or want. And I am no FPS expert but headshots are pretty much meaningless to most chimera as it does not effect them any differently in the campaign.

Visual/Presentation:Nothing spectacular. THe games environments were diverse. You had the Subway, the church, city streets, an abandoned factory, sewers, etc. THese locales differ enough to keep the game lively. Very Linear is true. But so are most FPS's. You may think the same of all FPS but you are bashing only Resistance for it here. FPS are linear genre. If it were more open it would become sandbox or RPG.

overall i give...
the game a 9.1 for being a very good release title. It was fun to play with an exspansive multiplayer. Story was good enough to capture my attention and I dont really like FPSs either. Unique locations that bring the threat of the Chimera to life.

I give this thread a 8.4 for giving valid points about the game yet some of them were harsh on R1 when all other shooters do the same thing. Also it was a bit of nit picking about weapons and levels brought your score far too low to be seen as legit.

Resistance is just as average as Halo.

Yeah, O.K. Buddy, Halo is average (Y).

.........

.........

Are you serious?

Any Halo rips this game in half.

meh, your opinion. Resistance actually has better weapons and a non-traditional story.

Truth is Halo is average as heck. The real FPS heavy weights are the ones that prove how average Halo really is.

Ok, let me disect this joke of a list.

(All latest iterations under Metacritic)

Unreal Tournament 3 (2007) - PC: 83, 360: 82, PS3: 86

Quake 4 (2005) - PC: 81, 360: 74

Doom 3 (2004) - PC: 87, Xbox: 88

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001) - PC: 88

Duke Nukem 3D (1996) - PC: 89

Of the mentioned, not one is "AAA" 90%+

(Except, Half-Life 2, which I think is the only one that can compete. That's the reason why I didn't include it's score, because I, too, believe it can be said in the same breath of Halo.)

-----------

Halo (2001) - Xbox: 97

Halo 2 (2004) - Xbox: 95

Halo 3 (2007) - 360: 94

And those are reviews.

Now, lets talk with more than just numbers shall we?

Halo 3.

Single player

System Link

Amazing original score composed by Marty O'Donnell

Meta-game (rack up points by killing baddies in the campaign, You can play it co-operatively or competitively to see who gets the most points)

Offline splitscreen 4 player co-op

Online 4 player co-op (or even mix, 2 splitscreeners with 2 more online)

Custom games

Most balanced set of weapons

Player customization

Amazing party system (Switch from one game type to another without kicking everyone or whatever those games do. Example, Moving a party from Campaign to Custom Games is effortless)

Matchmaking (Let's you level up your rank, and continue to play people with around same rank as you, probably the most fairest system online, instead of gay 'servers'. You don't join a game that already started and has all noobs on one team and haxxors on the other LOL.)

Robust vehicular combat (online, offline)

Game types gallore (Standard CTF, Assault, Slayer and the such, to even more unique ones such as Grifball)

Forge (Make crazy things, dropping in and out, in existing maps. You can turn any map into a racetrack for example)

Theater Mode (Capture all those WTF? moments <---- Huge feature. Screenshots, Videos, Sharing it to anyone else)

Online Community (Bungie.net. Check your stats, k/d ratio, where you died, number of kills with certian weapon, medals you got.)

Most flawless online maps, there are nothing "cheap" about any of them.

And there are more I can add, I want to go to bed, I'm going to bookmark this and come back to it tomorrow.

....

Now can you honostly read what I wrote, and call it "average"?

All those games you mentioned up there don't even have HALF of what Halo 3 offers.

Now I stick by my statement that any Halo rips Resistance in half.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyLhpUPNPIs

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

Truth is, if you call Halo "average", you probably never played it.

And BTW, I never call people out, but I just wanted to lay down the law, as I never tend to even bother.

P.S. BAHAHA at your "heavy weights". You want to talk boxing? Halo is the Rocky Marciano of FPS.

wow you are the first person ive heard say they do not like resistance. but oh well we are all entitled to our own opinions, i infact enjoyed it throughly especially the singleplayer/co-op

I was meaning franchises and you just proved how big of a console fanboy you are. Arguing with you would be pointless. You really don't understand PC reviews are total perfectionist pricks compared to the console reviewer-fairies. Comparing people like Greg Miller and Jeff (guy who was fired from GameSpot) to people like Jason Ocampo and Ed Zitron is like comparing an Apple to a Mountain. If Spore in its state was released on the 360 it would have easily received a 10/10.

Also check your facts. I owned an Xbox, 360, and the PC copy of Halo. I also owned Halo 2 (disc got scratched to hell).

ssj12, it doesn't change the fact that Halo brought a lot of new things to the table, especially for a console FPS, making itself a totally ''different'' FPS game that we've never seen before. I haven't seen a better game (FPS in that case) that introduced the ''feature-heavy'' concept here, and denying this is pretty foolish if you ask me.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
