Forums - Sales - sony thinks blueray is done for?

http://www.techradar.com/news/video/hd-dvd/5-reasons-why-blu-ray-could-be-dead-by-2012-464705

"Blu-ray is not only finished in terms of spec, but it's also finished as a format. Optical disc technology has gone as far as it can go.

Or so says Take Miyama, Sony product manager for home video marketing in Europe believes. He told Electric Pig that "in the future, if [our emphasis] we have a physical media format, it will change physically. It won't look like an optical disc."

Talk of a 500GB Blu-ray prototype will only prolong the agony.

Sony has already hinted at its future direction with the launch of Bravia TVs in the US that can directly receive movies streamed over the internet. Blu-ray player not required."

wow sony needs to hire a speech writer or have proxy pr people handle all statments

The short of that is that optical media has plateaued. From a business standpoint, that means it's ripe for disruption. Actually, it already was ripe for disruption as soon as Blu-Ray came out. The low adoption rate suggests that the process of segmentation for optical media has begun.

The big question, of course, is what will replace it. Holographic media? Secure Digital? Something as of yet unannounced? Things should get interesting now...

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Yes I doubt they said anything close to that.

Its just the media trying to make them look bad again, they always change the words around, remember MGS4 "maxing" out the cell?

honestly leo-j i could see them making this satment thinking nothing of it. it does seem like something a forward thinking hadware company would do, so they can hype up their future new attempt at a download system (hopefully they will use a real standard and not one they make up for the files) or something that takes use of usb3, esata3, firewire 1600/3200, all those specs have been finalized all very fast.

edit despite this i feel they will offer a  ps4 or its next unit with blueray still. unless they junk backwards compatibility, could lead to two tears of units one with BC, and  a smaller one without, or the possibility of an add on like the retarded  arcade level 360 still in my mind MS worst move

The only thing that could disrupt BD is something that doesn't require a reader and that a lot of people have...

The internet would be an awesome answer, but youtube isn't good enough yet or maybe has gone past what good enough is or maybe is just gone into another direction.

BD is basically a television show without the commericals so I'd guess the viable compliment to that but cheaper and easier to use and access.

HD download is going to surpass Blu-Ray, or hasn't it already? Sales of Blu-Ray or poor IMHO not because of the PS3, but because the prices of Blu-Ray DVDS. $30?

This is why MS is now banking on digitial download and teamed up with Net Flex because they know direct download is the way to go.

It's just that simple.

PRobably an internet platform similar to PSN+Steam+YahooGames but through some hard medium... Not exactly a PC but something that gave multimedia simplicity on the interface... Also it would be killer if such a thing was on the go.. maybe a dual screen projected image with infared interface... That could do it.. it would have to be small though.. as to not get directly in the way and have a 180 degree line of sight... I'm not sure about camera technology today but I'm not sure that is plausable with one camera.

blu ray is not going to go away and disc etc also not.. there are many people that like to have casses with cd's of games and not all put on an harddrive.
