I remember in Warcraft 3 you could make your own levels, but using a kind of simple declaration system you could flag events at certain points and add narrative to your map. Maybe they did something like that for LBP, if they did then that would be one less con.

I am pretty sure that is what the "Sensor switch" is for.

Co-creator Mark Healey mentioned the numerous "switches in the game.

We have a set of ‘switches’ that can be wired up to various items;

‘Button’ – This is like the button you might find on a fruit machine – it requires pressure on it to operate it.

‘Two way switch’ – A two position switch – much like a light switch.

‘Three way switch’ A bit like the two way switch , except it has a central position, and will spring back to centre when not being operated.

‘Sensor switch’ This will become active when a Sackperson is close to it (you can alter the range) – this is much like a traditional ‘trigger’ as used in many game.

‘Sticker Switch’ Will become active when a particular sticker is applied on the object it is attached to.

‘Grab Switch’ Detects that a sackperson is grabbing the object the switch is stuck too.

‘Magnetic Key & Magnetic Switch’ – a bit like the sensor switch, except instead of detecting Sack persons, it detects color matched keys – very very handy...

These are all base level items, and can be combined and used in very cunning ways……to make very different types of games from what you might expect LBP to currently be….

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Also, as for people wondering if downloadable levels will have story or not, I think it is pretty safe to assume that any of the Disney levels will have some sort of story to go with them.

I want a Mickey Mouse sackboy.

For me personally:

Pros:
- Quite Innovative and Fresh, something I have yet to see on the PS3 outside of PSN
- Designing my own levels is not usually my thing, but it's nice to have
- Customising Sackboy, much like the Mii's on the Wii, i'll probably spend ages on
- Downloadable levels = potentially infinite replay value

Cons:
- I may never end up designing my own level
- Frustration if we have to pay for user-generated content
- Potential for massive amounts of sexually explicity user content, which'd stop being funny after the first one.
- Hope the physics engine doesn't collapse on itself by stupid tools that just want to make broken levels that'll become infamous and uber popular (you know it'll happen)
- Filtering through the good and bad levels may potentially be a bitch.

Seems like alot of cons, BUT they are all hypothetical and nothing we've seen thus far suggests it'll happen, I just worry.

HMM

1.you dont have to create your own levels, the disc comes with 50-60 premade ones.
and you can always play someone elses level

2. The game comes with a story and devlopers said that you'll be able to make your own story

3.

You'll always find the good levels since there is a rating system like youtube(hit count, relevance)

4.

There are admins and you'll be able to flag "penis levels"

Pros: 2D platforming goodness, potential for some really good DL content, deep level editor that I will never use, on and offline multiplayer.
Cons:I hate sackboys

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Let's not try and let this degrade into a senseless thread about sales numbers or fanboys rants...

I am sitting on the fence on whether to buy this game or not...

On one hand I see it as the next big thing... On the other hand after playing Braid for a bit I think there is a lot missing.

I see the purchase as follows:

Pros:

- Infinite replayability through level design

- A really neat idea.  I see it as the next generation of a kind of puzzle platformers

- It will be interesting to see what others create

Cons:

- I don't want to make my own levels, don't have or want to spend the time required to do it well

- I like stories to go with the levels like CoD, Halo, Gears, Resistance, MGS, etc.

- Once I play games through. I typically don't go back to replay much because I have figured out the gameplay elements and it becomes boring quickly.

What are your pros and cons? (Again, please no sales or fanboys rants)

Is not wanting to participate in an optional feature really a con? Just because a cell phone has texting abilities and I don't wish to use them doesn't make it a con.

I pretty much agree with your pros and would likely add that the multiplayer seems very interactive and fun. To the cons, well maybe moreso a fear, that the filtering system may be somewhat lacking, I really don't want to download a 'Final Fantasy' leveled stealth as a penis level.

lol I think the only good thing about this game is that you're able to make your own levels and the playing parts are meh ( at least from the videos I saw)

pros is maybe the same ass you..
cons not i think i will have amazingly much fun with friends with this game whhaha and i doo plan on making some levels

you don't have too, you can download other people high ranked levels

- I like stories to go with the levels like CoD, Halo, Gears, Resistance, MGS, etc.

people will also make story based levels, but LBP is a multiplayer experience it will be more fun with people

- Once I play games through. I typically don't go back to replay much because I have figured out the gameplay elements and it becomes boring quickly.

again you can download others if you played 50+ that comes built in, also this game is a competition, meaning even if you play the same level it won't be the same since the competition is different, same things happen to FPS and party games

What are your pros and cons? (Again, please no sales or fanboys rants)

pro: fresh gameplay, creating own levels and playin, playin in other ppl levels, the number of possible leves is practically unlimited

con: need to wait till the end of Oct
