yeah... MS and other 15 companies... by kowenicki words it seams that all BR discs gave MS money witch is not true... by this line of thought any one who activates wmv and wma reproduction on PS3 is giving money to MS?? they are all in this together... the bastards!!!

Isn't BR cracked already, and that it's the ps3 architecture that prevents piracy?
If so, I don't really see any need for them to go blu. There are probably rival formats to consider like flash and such.
PS: I really really really hope games go back to carts. The speed and storage capacity of flash is so amazing and cheap right now, that in the future couple years, carts will be perfect for console gaming again. Sure, it's not as cheap as BR or CD, but a 10-15GB flash stick could be viable soon. I wonder if Nintendo is contemplating it for the next console.
Microsoft can use it and if they don't they are going to tank, they will have to pay Blu-Ray Association(I think Sony and Toshiba developed Blu-Ray, and a bunch of others financed it, the BRA is full of everyone that financed it, not sure...) Millions of dollars but they can handle it and Sony isn't the only one that will get paid, everyone in the BRA gets paid. Correct me if I'm wrong I am mostly talking out of my A$$. lol

If they went for a unique variant of Blu Ray they could play the movies back but limit their exposure to royalties and the effect of piracy on the discs. Alternatively they can use the Blu Ray 'drive' but not actually pay money for playback and make the end user activate it and further reduce the royalties paid per console.

I mean that PS3 is using Blu-Ray technology for some years now.I'm not saying that to point its superiority or something.Im just saying that if the new xbox had blu-ray it's not gonna be big news...

Ah, okay. No, it wouldn't be big news but it is the logical step forward for the Xbox.

I personally think that it is unrealistic as Microsoft would have to pay Sony Billions to use it. And from their point of view it would be directly financing their enemy. Saying that Microsoft could afford it and it is a big advantage Sony has over Microsoft.

1) Yes, the 720 will have Blu-ray
2) No, they wouldn't be paying Sony. They would be paying the BDA. Sony is a large member of the BDA. Microsoft is a large member of the BDA. It wouldn't be anywhere near billions, but perhaps a few million.
