 Actually, that was a good point made by starcraft in that he is bringing up the possibility of a proprietary drive, but keep in mind that Sony really doesn't have that much in the part of the negotiations, as Sony doesn't even own the technology for the drives, its all panasonic, samsung, etc.  MS is going to have to negotiate with these guys, not Sony.

not a chance. Even though Sony is a Big fish in the Blu Ray making, they still had to pay the other parties on every sale. I read an article way back saying that the royalties that Sony had to pay was the number one reason the PS3 was initially priced over $700.00.


Is MS goes Blu Ray
1) HUGE MS royalties to the enemy

2) Sony will know the exact date of the 720 release lol (MS won't show their hand)

I heard MS was looking at 3.5" Floppy drives

Lot of misinformed people in this thread, can someone with knowledge of how the Blu-Ray association works come in here and drop some knowledge?

Sony does not "own" blu-ray.

I'm pretty sure Pioneer has stopped development on U-ray the arcticle you gave a link to is from 2004 that's six years old if it still was in development their would be more news out their and newer articles.  My bet on the next format that will surpass Blu-ray is still HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc).  Also since we are still in a economic recession I would not excpect any new format untill at least 2012 but more likely later then that.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Remember, Sony Games and Sony Electronics are for all intents and purposes completely different entities.

Sony would even get a small portion of every game sold on an Xbox 720. These would be cents / blu Ray, and would be paid by the game developers. It would be a great new sorce of income for Sony getting a few cents per copy of Halo lol

I am inclined to the possibility of including special drive/ memory based format other than blue-ray for the the next M$ console.
