Forums - Microsoft - Infinite Undiscovery 70K first day sales

IU was good but way to short, I finished it after 15 hours but thats without to much exploring and crafting items.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

It'll be a good week for 360 in Japan, and America.

Could beat PS3 by a good bit for the Week ending the 13th.

Don't be surprised if 360 sales in JP are greater than the Wii this week.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I wonder what MS expectations were for ToV and IU in Japan.

Is this enough for them to keep trying so hard with more exclusive JRPGs? Are the shortages proof they werent expecting such sales? MS still have SO4 coming out and it will be interesting to see what happens!

Very impressive IU sales!

Lost Odyssey didn't move near the consoles that Blue Dragon did in Japan. So I think MS was caught of guard when ToV caused 360 sales to spike so high. If JRPG's keep spiking 360 sales like this in Japan, I would expect MS to try to secure even more of them. Sakaguchi/Mistwalker and Namco will definitely see some benefit from this. Heck if this proves to be a real trend it might be wise for MS to strike up some deals with smaller RPG developers as well.

As I said in the news post, this is very good, and well above what I expected.

One thing of note: By talking to VGC staff that have "insider info" on pre-order numbers, they constantly stated that IU wasn't heavily pre-ordered, and expected 35-40k pre orders to be sold first day.

So we have 2 options as to why IU sold so well:

1) VGC staff was wrong
2) Massive walk-up orders

If it's #2, I would expect IU to move a bit of consoles. I think that 20,000 consoles may be do-able this week. Depending on what the Wii does, it may make my prediction come true. The PS3 looks to be toast this week in Japan.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Didnt expected that, predicted in prediction leagues 45k, will be interesting too see how much it sold in Us and how much it moved the 360 in Japan.

update : with some user comment from neogaf:

I frequent another forum that has a few X360 Japanese users. They said that, although Japan is re-stocked, hardware is moving very briskly, and has sold out in some areas of the Arcade unit.

One such member said that they expect the X360 to beat the Wii this week.

Either way, those numbers for IU are well above expected. Lets hope that 30,000+ new X360 owners decided to pick it, plus Tales up this week :)

I think this is the size of hardcore JRPG fans on XB360.
I guess we'll see with the number of consoles sold, and the week total of IU sold.

@mrstickball: By taking a quick glance at your year's end predictions, I can expect you to be wrong... 2 years in a row predicting terrible sales for Sony and Nintendo products and being extremely and impossibly generous with MS.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Thats great
