Forums - Nintendo - Wii Music - The ultimate videogame?

@Dallinor: Good questions. Although, this thread is about the conclusion.

1. Depends on the kind of gamer. Competetive gamers no. Gamers for fun, yes.

2. Not quite sure what you ask here, but it represents high value for families and non-competetive gamers as well as music enthusiasts.

3. Hardcore, as in we see talked about in the forums, no. But hardcore, as gaming enthusiast, are propably interested in trying it out.
Anyway, the interest of hardcore is irrelevant for the products success.

4. It appears to be.

5. That was a wrong question, you should ask how deep illusion of control it can create. So far what i've seen, it looks like you have a lot of control.

What you didn't ask, was the accessibility of the game, which, granted, all the games mentioned, are quite accessible. And accessibility is maybe even the most important feature.

Games like Sims or WoW have created its own hardcore, meaning you may not be interested in any other game, but still can be an enthusiast in either Sims or WoW. Both of the games are pointless in outsiders view, especially if the outsider is competetive gamer, but still, some of them have become interested in the games because of their seemingly social aspect. After all, competition is only about imagination, people compete in playing guitar, piano, well, any instrument there is, without any pre-set scoring system, so the multiplayer may end up being competetive after all -without winner or a loser.

@Zucas: Yes, all the games are about win or lose, it's a different matter do the gamers play them so. Most people wants to feel success, and in games the feel of success is created by winning, whether it is the game or your opponent. Basically the more competetive game in question, the faster people get tired in it. Online multiplayer have expanded the lifetime of competetive games, by making every game played (online) different and not predictable. What Wii Music is attempting to do, is to get rid of the competition and remove an obstacle that prevents people from getting into games. Nobody wants to lose.

I'm just happy that my girlfriend does not want this game. :D

Wait...Other than entertaining us, isn't that the purpose of game is to win against someone or something?

For me I'd call it a simple toy. Nothing different from action figures or plastic cars.

Miyamoto has said that this is a music toy, not so much a game.

He was right.

@iron megalith: That's true only in competetive games. For example the Moomin games on PC, aren't competetive at all, but you're supposed to achieve by performing the task you're supposed to do.
Then, the competetive/achieving focus on games turn people off from games, since outside competing and achieving, there's not much to do, and you just want to play it to have fun.

Looking at how people play games, you'll notice that many don't play to reach the goal, they just play what interests them. Look at Gran Turismo or GTA, despite the games having goals, there's so much more you can do in those games and how did they sell?

In order to make a game, where everyone can equally reach the goal, you can only manage by removing the pre set goal and that's what the Wii Music is about. If Wii Music taps the audience it's after, they will graduate to Wii Sports, from where they jump to MKWii and from MKWii to SMG. That's how it goes. By looking at Nintendos strategy in upgrading the new audience, they're after pretty huge software sales.

@786_ali: No. For everyone. Old people, young people, families, musical people who can't play any instruments. People who haven't played videogames ever, and haven't cared about them either.
Ultimate game in general, the most accessible game ever.

whats funny is that people will make fun of this game, yet its probaly more of a realistic instrument playing game than guitar hero, which is nothing like playing a guitar

Guitar Hero series and Rock Band series are much better music based games for gamers. Wii Music is made to compete alongside the heavy weight music titles already on the market.

Wii Music will sell over 5 million just like all Nintendo first party games are expected to sell. Does it mean it is a good game if it sells over 5 million? No.

Wii Music being mentioned alongside Pong and Super Mario Bros is blasphemy to gamers.

Wii Music will be like Wii Fit. It will sell a lot of copies but it will not be any good. I wonder how many people are still playing Wii Fit six months on?

I still play Wii Fit.  You try those push-ups with side planks and then tell me it's no good.  And it is definitely a fun game to play in a group setting.

As for Wii Music, I've never really been big on the music titles but it won't affect me negatively if others pick it up.
