@Dallinor: Good questions. Although, this thread is about the conclusion.
1. Depends on the kind of gamer. Competetive gamers no. Gamers for fun, yes.
2. Not quite sure what you ask here, but it represents high value for families and non-competetive gamers as well as music enthusiasts.
3. Hardcore, as in we see talked about in the forums, no. But hardcore, as gaming enthusiast, are propably interested in trying it out.
Anyway, the interest of hardcore is irrelevant for the products success.
4. It appears to be.
5. That was a wrong question, you should ask how deep illusion of control it can create. So far what i've seen, it looks like you have a lot of control.
What you didn't ask, was the accessibility of the game, which, granted, all the games mentioned, are quite accessible. And accessibility is maybe even the most important feature.
Games like Sims or WoW have created its own hardcore, meaning you may not be interested in any other game, but still can be an enthusiast in either Sims or WoW. Both of the games are pointless in outsiders view, especially if the outsider is competetive gamer, but still, some of them have become interested in the games because of their seemingly social aspect. After all, competition is only about imagination, people compete in playing guitar, piano, well, any instrument there is, without any pre-set scoring system, so the multiplayer may end up being competetive after all -without winner or a loser.
@Zucas: Yes, all the games are about win or lose, it's a different matter do the gamers play them so. Most people wants to feel success, and in games the feel of success is created by winning, whether it is the game or your opponent. Basically the more competetive game in question, the faster people get tired in it. Online multiplayer have expanded the lifetime of competetive games, by making every game played (online) different and not predictable. What Wii Music is attempting to do, is to get rid of the competition and remove an obstacle that prevents people from getting into games. Nobody wants to lose.
