@iron megalith: That's true only in competetive games. For example the Moomin games on PC, aren't competetive at all, but you're supposed to achieve by performing the task you're supposed to do.
Then, the competetive/achieving focus on games turn people off from games, since outside competing and achieving, there's not much to do, and you just want to play it to have fun.
Looking at how people play games, you'll notice that many don't play to reach the goal, they just play what interests them. Look at Gran Turismo or GTA, despite the games having goals, there's so much more you can do in those games and how did they sell?
In order to make a game, where everyone can equally reach the goal, you can only manage by removing the pre set goal and that's what the Wii Music is about. If Wii Music taps the audience it's after, they will graduate to Wii Sports, from where they jump to MKWii and from MKWii to SMG. That's how it goes. By looking at Nintendos strategy in upgrading the new audience, they're after pretty huge software sales.
