Forums - Sony - Sony Should spend all their marketing budget in October 2008

Fallout exclusive content? u are kidding aren't u? since wen do consoles sell due to Exclusive downloadable content?
Oh mum mum please by me a 360 because they will be releasing Exclusive content for it!!! ... ermm i don't think so.

Sony just needs to market 2 games: R2 and LBP
If they have extra money, they can start advertising home

if they were really clever they could make an advert mocking the 360 like the mac and MS advert. After all, the 360 is the same to the ps3 what the pc is to the mac.

Actually that is good reason to choose one version over the other. If the ps3 game had exclusive content I would have got that. For the average consumer it might not matter much.

You are right for the wrong reasons.

All that money will be needed to counter Microsoft's RPG dominance that month.

Fable 2 and Fallout 3 exclusive content..........

both Fable 2 and Fallout 3 will be overshadowed by WKC coming out in japan in december then ported to NA+EU later

Nah they won't. Fable 2 will be really sucessful in both reviews and sales compared to WKC.  (WKC will be the better game, but thats not the point.)

So what's coming out in October:-

  • FIFA 09
  • PES 2009
  • Saints Row 2
  • Far Cry 2
  • BioShock
  • Dead Space
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Fallout 3
  • Silent Hill: Homecoming

What about November:-

  • Mirror's Edge
  • Prince of Persia
  • Guitar Hero: World Tour
  • Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld
  • Resistance 2

I reckon there will be a huge push for LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm and Resistance with other adds for Mirror's Edge, Far Cry and PES.

OMG A SILENT HILL GAME IS COMING AND ZERO HYPE?????????????????????????

The series has been going downhill, and the games aren't popular. SH: Homecoming is coming out this month.

Oooh... Fallout 3 exclusive content!  I wonder what it is!?!?  Too bad no one knows :/  That's going to make many people buy the 360 version.  A grab bag of content.  Who knows what u would have to pay for (if u want it) !

fixed. Seriously, IMO, DLC is a really bad joke and anybody who touts it like it's a deciding factor this gen is a clown. I feel that DLC are things that should have been in the game originally, but they make u pay for it after (especially if it's right at launch, or near it). It's sad that MS has brainwashed all of those people into thinking that "exclusive DLC" means "FULL EXPERIENCE HERE ONLY!" (since MS is the ones that always buy* exclusive DLC and make it a big, big deal)

*Possibly as it is not proven.

*looks at Rogue Galaxy*

Wat? That damn extra dungeon is the worst thing to ever embrace mankind. No saves ANYWHERE? Are you kidding me? Other than that, I have to agree that Level 5 is a pretty good RPG developer though. =P

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

So two established IP's that are WRPG's will be overshadowed by the release of a JRPG three months later in another region that is brand new and noone in the West has heard of?

Right, I guess that puts me in my place then.

Yeh, I would have focused on Motorstorm 2, SOCOM Confrontation and LBP (possibly W HD), and they should get the PES 2009 commercial to have the PS3 logo featured in it, that game will be huge, and considering the PS3 version outsold the 360 version last year, they should really try and get that (the first proper next gen PES) to boost their hardware sales, they should work properly with their good friends Konami to make sure that that game is advertised massively.

Oh yeah, they need to save it for Resistance 2, which is going to have a mutlimillion $ advertising campaign (infamous will too).

What sony need to do is end their ridiculous adverts, and buy a massive amount of advertising for LBP to explain why it is so awesome, and just show MS 2 running in split screen, that will move tons of copies (maybe they could show off quicker load times to increase the sales by about 1m!)

fallout 3 is multiplat sales will be near similar on ps360. with that said WKC > fable 2 even though it comes out months later. so therefor not all of that money will  be needed to counter Fable 2 and Fallout 3 "exclusive content" (seriously exclusive content is a joke)

Fable 2 will easily outstrip WKS sales wise, and will almost certainly be of far higher quality.

Fail.

lol!!! i am going to save that post for future reference, thanks for making my day with that post :]

You're kidding right? White Knight is going to outsell Fable 2? All data points way in the other direction. I'll use our own data.

Fable sales=2,600,000 total

Now here's where i'll run into a problem. Most Level 5 games only have data for Japan and none for other regions. However, Pofessor Layton has complete data and the trend shows Level 5 has the bulk of it's games sell in Japan. However, I will throw you a bone and match the Japanese sales for each game into the NTSC and PAL regions to be fair. Here's every original IP Level 5 has done on the PS2.

Dark Cloud=80,000 in Japan x 3=240,000 total
Dark Cloud 2=260,000 in Japan x 3=780,000 total
Rogue Galaxy=360,000 in Japan x 3=1,080,000 total

Now let's take a break to see that even as I was being VERY generous in the ghost sales I gave Level 5 games, all three of their console offerings combined couldn't break the sales of the original Fable. Level 5 PS2 games=2,100,000 against Fable's 2,600,000. Also remember that I am only counting Xbox figures for Fable. I'm completely leaving out sales for Fable: The Lost Chapters and Fable for the PC, because they are not available here.

Now I know what will be said next. Level 5 is MUCH more popular now. That is very true. Level 5 is a top software developer and can sell games off that name brand alone...in Japan. There is no data suggesting Level 5 will see anywhere near as good sales overseas, and that brings me to my next example, Professor Layton. This was the star making game that put Level 5 on the map. Japanese sales 980,000. American sales 260,000.

What makes White Knight so different that it'll buck these trends?

Good point. Xbox 360 is much more popular than the Xbox was. Fable 2 has been hording media attention for over 6 months now. I'm sure Fable 2 will bomb miraculously. 500,000 copies confirmed.
