Forums - Gaming - Tales of Vesperia Coming to PS3

Despite what people say, ToV will make it's way to the PS3, there is allot of money to be made from the Japanese people that want this game.

I can't believe even this has turned into a fanboy wars.

Good news, more people will get to play the game this way.

yes this is true, it was originally pencilled in for ps360, then went 360 only, it will be timed like eternal sonata.

if eternal sonata sells more on ps3 then namco should be condemed for that, as they choose backpayment, over raising thier gaming profile

Namco don't need to raise their gaming profile.

They are just choosing to put their JRPG's on the only next generation system that has been proven to sell that genre.

The only JRPG released on the PS3 is Enchanted Arms and it sold better on PS3 than on 360 despite being a port that was released months later.

Exactly.  The only JRPG released and look how it sold..............

Xbox 360 owners however have demonstrated that there are at LEAST 800k JRPG fans playing the console.

Enchanted Arms was also the 360's only JRPG (at the time) and look how it sold. So clearly devs aren't looking at that when they are deciding where to put these JRPG's.

So tell us... what exactly are they looking at? Could it possibly be...

Not sure if you've covered this in the thread yet, but this pamphlet was a printing error and Bandai Namco openly stated it.

Even if it was planned for PS3 at this point, do you really think they'd estimate the same sales for a 360 release as a 360 AND PS3-release? That makes no sense.

Personally, I think pretty much all Sony-fans on this site are getting way ahead of themselves. Being positive is one thing, but blindly claiming that every 3rd party 360-exclusive is timed and will come to the PS3 later is a nuclear explosion waiting to happen.

You had, and in this post continued to, change two key elements of what I was saying.

As there are a few other people (chenguo, DMeisterJ) in this thread who took issue with what I was NOT saying rather than what I WAS saying they can consider this post my response to their comments as well.

First of all, you have posted with regard to "RPG's," but I have only been discussing "JRPG's."

Secondly, I have not once said that the PS3 will never sell large quantities of JRPG's.  I have said that it has not proven itself capable of doing so.  The highest selling JRPG on the PS3 sold 110k.  You can argue that this is by default, you can argue that it is due to the Xbox 360's headstart (though the Wii launched at the same time as the PS3 and has a 700k selling JRPG) and you can argue that this is all due to Microsoft moneyhatting publishers.  But at the end of the day this doesn't change the simple fact that you (or me) claiming the PS3 can sell JRPG's in large quantities is an assumption.

It may or may not be a reasonable or logical assumption, I have not once passed judgement on that argument in this thread.  But unless you have access to sales charts I do not, for games that I was not aware existed, you cannot possibly tell me you are not making the assumption that JRPG's can sell well on the PS3.

At least not reasonably......

There doesn't seem to be one jRPG on PS3 yet with data tracked in all territories so with regard to PS3 all you can say is its potential is unproven.

If you'd paid any real attention to what I have been saying then you would realise that the above is literally all I have been saying.  The PS3 has no demonstratable ability to sell JRPG's.

Its funny that you agree with that point, but are all over me instead of correcting the many Sony fans in this thread that emphatically declare that the PS3 can, without a doubt, shift vast numbers of JRPG's.

This is old news....

@ majin, so you actually believe them when they say that?

Anyway, I hope it will, because even if it comes out 6 months after in the US, I can still import it before the game comes to Europe!!!!! (though I wont be getting it in any case)

Fine, then riddle me this - If they project the exact same amount of sales from a multiplat release as they do for a 360 exclusive, why would they bother releasing it on PS3 at all? It makes no sense.

I, however, concede that the title may well come to the PS3 eventully, but I also firmly believe that there are no such plans right now.

This is the nice version of what I was thinking in my head.

You cleary have no idea what your talking about , the PS3 has over 3X the install base of the 360 in Japan keeping in mind these consoles are actualy owned by not western  but mostly Japanese people .

In comparison to the 360 the PS3 has sold poorly in terms of JRPG's but then again the PS3 hasn't had a high profile JRG to date ...so how exactly are you able to proove this poorly conceived belief ?

Saying the PS3 has no demonstratable ability to sell JRPG's doesn't is so desperate it shoudln't even count as a valid point , even going by install base alone the PS3 should we able to outsell the 360 , every multiplatform game in Japan has sold better on the PS3 than it has the 360 why would JRPG's be any different ?.

Even if your JRPG argument succeeds there's an even more signifant problem , the 360 doesn't even have a million hardware sales  it cannot be a signifant mover of software in comparison to it's competition (which happen to be at the very least 3X bigger in install base) . Without the use of moneyhatts Microsoft has next to nothing to offer the devloper for exclusive games , the XBOX 360 continues to stagnate in Japan and the XBOX brand fails in Japan for yet another year.

This. Don't forget Europe though. PS3 outsells the 360 counterpart in just about every game in that territory also

As a main entry to the Tales of series, ToV sold like ass, now if it was a spinoff like Symphonia Wii then its sale would've been acceptable.

That's not fair, nor is it accurate. I don't think it's fair to compare the sales of a game that was released on the PS2 in Japan, to a game that was released on the 360. Also, I believe that TotA, the last great entry in the series, on the PS2, didn't sell to hot in America either, and it was on the PS2 as well.

The Wii is a monster, and Symphonia is a cult classic. I'd be shocked it Symphonia 2 didn't outsell Vesperia. That's why they're making it afterall. A cashin on the success of Symphonia.
