Yeah thats sucks, They better not fuck it up next yr with mote +

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Does it matter what reviewers says already? Wii owners eat this shit up anyway, since they never seen a hockey game on the Wii before, especially the canadians.

Anyway, its a good thing that Take 2 is experimenting with the Wii already, too bad EA was 10 steps ahead of them.

I would say that Wii owners buying a lotta hockey is not very likely.  To date, no pro-sports franchises have done very well on the Wii, despise its large install base.  Even the PS2 comes close, or does, outsell the Wii version in almost every case.

Madden series says hi

Have you bothered to look at the numbers for Madden on the Wii, vs the other consoles?

You're making my point for me.

Because Wii games relies on legs, not its because its a blockbuster in its first month. Have you seen the pattern yet? Most HD console games dropped hard after a month or two on its release while Wii games still keeps selling. Madden 08 is the proof of it, it will keep selling till the end of the year could be a million seller in 2009. Last time I checked Madden 08 its only on 600,000 range now its on 800,000. And for a small development cost of Wii games 3rd parties sure are happy...

Boom Blox also the game that relies on legs, Im not surprised if the game will be a million seller eventually.

Game developers/publishers relies more on profits rather than the total amount of sales.

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

Why the hell does it look graphically terrible?

I'm feeling fairly certain that Madden '08 will not keep selling much longer, since um... Madden '09 is out, and has been for several weeks.

On pro-sports games, those "legs" last one year, and no more.  Look at Madden NFL 08's numbers here on the site.  I guarantee that they are not going to change much from here on out, and the same has been true for the past decade with annual sports titles.  The X360 sold 3x as many as the Wii, despite having a smaller install base.  The PS3 sold more than the Wii, despite having a *signifigantly* smaller install base (and being shorted by 3 months on the chart, relative to the Wii!).  The PS2 sold 2.5x as much as the Wii, despite having not much more than that as an installed base (in America, where Madden is relevant), and being nearly 9 years old.

The Wii version was the worst performer of the pack, by far, discounting the portable console versions and old consoles, and american football is much, much more popular than hockey in the US.  The Wii versions of these games are probably fairly expensive to develop, since they are the most different, from a development perspective -- the games are certainly developed on the HD consoles primarily, and watering down the game as much as is obviously needed (to produce results like the one we see here) is *very* time consuming and expensive.

As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for the PS2 version (which requires the downgrade work, but still yields a good profit), I wonder if the Wii version of Madden would even exist.  Sports games *must* sell a ton to make a profit... guess who else, besides the hardware manufacturer, the retailer, the developer, and the publisher,  gets a hand in the profits? (the licensees -- and they take a hell of a chunk, if you hadn't figured that out)

Sorry, but sports just aren't the Wii's forte.  Its a great console, but I have to say that its pretty apparent that sports obviously don't appeal as much to the typical Wii owner, as they do to the typical X360/PS3/even PS2 owner.  I'm fine with the Wii not being everyone's favorite sports console -- I don't really think of my Wii in those terms.  I do understand the mentality of the sports gamer, as well -- HD, and more photorealism, is awesome for sports and so is the classic dual analog style controller.  The Wii doesn't cut it (to date).  Sorry, but its true.  Why do you think pro sports franchises are constantly trying to provide the "you're watching the sport on TV" experience?  Those are their fans -- and yep, the HD consoles just cannot be beaten by the Wii in this dept.

To this I say... "oh well."  I'm pretty sure that's "okay" for the Wii.  It has a heck of a lot of other stuff going for it.  It doesn't need to rule every genre to succeed wildly.

Ermmh... is it because the games comes out last year and theres no enough userbase that the Wii has now? Anyway, you may win this arguement this time especially the sales of NA of Maden so far, but in year 2009 it will change. Infact, its already  changing, inspite of game sells on 360 so far, the sales of 360 itself was only on 50,000 and  the PS3 outselling the 360 week by week in NA. I think the only gamers buys 360 games are the loyal fanbase of it and its deminishing as time goes by. And MS admits they lost to the Wii, and if 360 hits saturation what will SONY do? Even theyre outselling the 360 it isnt enough to even compete with the Wii.

Okay, the install base for the 360 may be smaller, but I think everybody here understands that the vast majority of 360 owners are the meatheads who buy Madden year and and year out.

Is it a shock to anybody? Seriously?

And I don't believe for a moment that Madden on the Wii costs anything more to develop than any other game on the console. Which in this time, should be practically nothing compared to the escalated costs of 360 and PS3 development.

Add to that the fact that Madden on the Wii is TROUNCING Madden's numbers on the Gamecube, and I'd say that EA must be very happy.

Give it one or two more years, and I expect the sales on the Wii to be at least equal to that of the 360.

I was arguing with someone in another thread about developers not taking Wii seriously due to not making big franchises on the console or making the big franchise and gimping it heavily. Wii has been out long enough to get games that have:

1) Online play. (Even Pro Evolution has it and how long ago was the last footie made by Konami for a Nintendo console? Like Winning Eleven 6 or something?)

2) Depth in manager mode.

3) Create a player.

4) Full list of options.

5) Solid frame rate (even with no online? How is this possible these days? It could be a Gamecube port and do better with the frame rate. WTF?).

Developers are destined to not try very hard. Not sure why, but come on 2k games, everyone knows you are capable of so much more than this. It is sad to see things go this way. I think this game makes my point even more valid today than it was when me and thee other poster were arguing about it.

Yes, the game designers have to change the playstyle from "watching the game on TV," to either "you're the athlete," or "you're the coach" if they want to succeed on Wii. And they're starting to get a hold on that concept.
