Two exclusives that were hyped to the max, but met with hostile reviews and poor sales.

I confess that I paid good money for Haze upon release in Japan. I'm not even going to try and defend it, but at the very least I could have spent the time playing worse. I beat the single player, then got about 3/4 through in online co-op, which was reasonably entertaining. Then I sold the game (probably about a week after buying it). Ultimately though it was pretty poor.

I can't speak for Too Human.

Anyway, the games have been compared to one another before, and it looks like for good reason too.

Haze sold about 400,000 to date.

Too Human did OK in the US during the first week, but pretty badly elsewhere.

So which one will win? In other words, which one will sell the least?

If figure Too Human might win it. Shocking sales in Japan and Others, and at least Haze being an FPS meant it had some brief legs, where Too Human is some unusual RPG/action type game.

Bit sure if either qualifies as a bomb I think they didnt live up to the hype, but they will both sell close to a half million

If TH sells 500k and even if they would make/game 50$ they would only manage to make 25 million $.... it had a 40 million budget, so yeah its a humungus bomb ;)

It's usually a dollar for dollar split on the publishing deal.  If the dev budget was 40 million, then MS is on the hook for close to another 40 million.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Both suck but I would say that Too Human had more potential for "Great Sales" had it been good. If they both had even average scores, Haze would have sold maybe 700k but Too Human could have had at least 2 million as many people were eager for it and nobody really even talked about Haze.

^ in my opinion ~70% is pretty much "average" in the current scoring system

@ barozi )

I had a look at the list again and saw they definately are alphabetically ordered (that's certainly not a coincidence for the PSP list is in alphabetical order aswell)- so, no, Haze wasn't 1st, but just one of the top 10.

coincidence ? lol

If we compared ratings then Haze's below 50% would be considered a bomb. Too Human in the high 60's would be considered a disappointment..

Sales/Profits?? Well Radical is still around, so if SK goes bankrupt then we can consider Too Human a bomb.

Well, seems like the Sony fans that "flooded" the thread were correct, eh?

No, I don't recall anyone passionately arguing for the news' validity either, but no 360 fans were shooting it down.  I guess it was good to play it safe, as we all knew the game woudl flop.  Good for 360 owners not to get worked up over the pre-orders so if they were true, or not, they wouldn't get called out...

As someone who has played the game, I can tell you it is not complete and utter crap.  Certainly not the best game I've ever played, but if they fix the camera issues and mix it up a little the second game will find itself twenty points higher on Metacritic.

So your logic is that Xbox 360 fans didn't hype Too Human, but they only didn't in CASE it flopped.  Therefore, they were all hyping it secretely in their minds, and therefore the game is comparable hypewise to the real and expressed hype received by Haze after it was announced PS3 exclusive?

Nice try Mr craft.

No, I'm saying that 360 fanboys didn't hype the 1 million pre-orders because they either A) knew it was B.S. or B) didn't want to be proven wrong when it was proven B.S.

They hype about the game was there, but not about the pre-orders, guess they learned that after the lackluster previews not to believe that.

And I also played Too Human, pretty good, and right in line with a 7 or so.

The only time Too Human was ever even "hyped" on the VGC boards was when someone posted that bullshit article about Too Human having 1 million preorders, and everyone was like WTF?

Before that, nada, nothing.  Just because you say over and over that too human was hyped isn't going to make it true.  The game devs definitely tried to hype it a few times, but you look at any of the gaming community forums and press on the web and you'll see that xbox fans have been largely indifferent to this game.

@ barozi )  and coincidentally all lists (just checked the others) are in alphabetical order

well.. apart from the 360 one, because on that one brütal legend and battlefield bad company are switched (someone messed up his alphabet there)

FAIL topic...

Too Human wasn't hyped anywhere near as much as Haze was. Haze was supposed to be a system seller (It did have massive sales considering how crap it was).

Too Human scored better in most reviews and is considered a better, although still very flawed game.

Too Human will sell less than Haze overall because of blind fanboys on the PS3 buying it (the sales so far HAVE PROVED this theory), along with the GENERAL SHORTAGE OF QUALITY TITLES ON THE PS3 AS A WHOLE

Hey im not denying haze wasnt hyped, crap or bombed, but your denial that Too Human wasnt hyped as much just shows your a blind fanboy.

I didn't say Too Human wasn't hyped, it was. But the hype definately was nowhere near the likes of Haze. Haze was hyped in a similar way to LBP is being hyped now.

It was always mentioned in posts as reasons to own a PS3 like Killzone 2 is now (Have you read any of Leo-J's posts, I'm taling about that sort of thing).

Too Human was quietly hyped in the background, but the hype was generated more from its ridiculous time in development and the falling out between SK and Epic, as opposed to millions of stupid fanboy PS3 owners. People like Leo-J. Now that might be considered a personal insult. But it is actually true, so it is not an insult. Checkout Leo-J's post history and look at anything where mentions Killzone 2...

THAT is how Haze was hyped...

Too Human didn't have ANYONE hyping the game in that way, we were all looking forward to it, but there were doubts in peoples mind about its quality from the beginning...When the previews and negativity started appearing the hype that was hardly there to start with had gone completely.

My take on things, I'm not a blind fanboy, I'm a human being with memory.

FAIL topic?

You dare say that when your post fails so horribly. Damn you're just as worse as trestres.

I mean WTF are you trying to say about blind fanboys... Are you describing yourself? If so, you don't need to do so since It's so clear.

Don't you dare tell me this is a joke post or it's gonna be a FAIL joke....

You in some way idolize Leo-J? Way to dig even deeper underground huh? Better not dig on the MS fanboys' side or you'll find the same dirt you found on PS3 fanboys' side

On Topic both were hyped but I think Haze was hyped back then but then it died... 2 Delays and looking to generic. That's what killed it. I read about a preview on Haze(forgot where) and it said that it wasn't anything special.

Too Human on the other hand... Same thing happened with this. If I'm not mistaken they had a problem with Unreal Engine 3. Delayed to eternity like Haze. If it didn't sell enough, probably because of lack of hype. I don't get the preorders though....

You know you're a fanboy when you get into a heated argument about whether the worst reviewed games on your system were hyped or not. This whole thread fails for that reason, and that reason only.
