Other things with people not understanding why some others are really behind this game as it looks like "just another generic shooter". The big deal with this game is people really like the controls being fully customizable from the button layout to the bounding box that controls how far off center you have to be to start turning and even the speed that you turn/aim/run/walk, the head's up display is also fully customizable, and the fact that it takes so much insparation from Half-Life that is far from a generic shooter. The controls that are so hyped on can can be summed up in this quote from Matt at IGN "You can see it in the way the reticule moves smoothly around the screen and you can see it when Corso makes a sharp turn and the screen flows quickly and fluidly to the right. The clunky, mechanical control that you endure in so many console-based first-person shooters is absent from The Conduit. Rather, it simulates the spectacular responsiveness found in Medal of Honor Heroes 2, a game that we celebrated almost entirely for its definable control setup." So basically what it's saying is you CAN NOT get those kind of controls with a normal two joystick controller, period. Even DKII said himself that he really liked the game and wasn't that sure about it until he went hands on with it himself, and that's coming from someone who has nothing to gain from saying so.

Your whole topic is very informative, but the bolded is very iffy. A game that is inspired by Half-Life can be a generic shooter. Why? Because a lot of games have been inspired by Half-Life. It's a game that pioneered many imitators to the throne through it's many advances in first person shooting. A game that takes too much from it will seem generic. There was nothing like Half-Life before it, and that is why it did not feel generic, even though there were other great FPSes at the time. You logic that because Half-Life is not generic it concludes that a game inspired by Half-Life cannot be generic is completely backwards. That is exactly why some people think it seems so blah in the first place.

That is my personal opinion, I know there are imitators, but nothing else quite seemed like the feeling Half-Life gave me from looking at it and story wise, this is a game about Aliens and government conspiracy, etc. and even the story is told in a similar fashion with radio and video communication. Really it's a big rip off but if it lives up to what the gameplay and such it should be great for any Half-Life fan. Again thats my personal opinion but everyone's welcome to state their own. But really I've never played a FPS that has come close to the look and feel of Half-Life and this game sure has the look down IMO and from what I've read on the story it's shaping up as well, I can post the picture with a few explanations of the story if you wish. (warning it's a very big picture and very long)

I understand it's your opinion, but that seems to go against the purpose of this post, which I assumed was to focus on the facts. If HVS said they're inspired by Half-Life, that's great to input into your info page, but this just doesn't seem like the place to put your own spin on whether it's generic or not based on it's similarities to Half-Life. If I were you, (which I'm pretty sure I'm not...wait...let me check...yep I'm not) I wouldn't have that on an info page for the game, in regards to whether or not it's generic. Let others come to their own conclusions based on the facts you provide.
FYI, if you haven't already, play Bioshock. It shares a lot of similarities to Half-Life.
