Can't find the original article on IGN it might have been a podcast =\ but here's a link to another statement about no splitscreen http://gonintendo.com/?p=52859 it's been stated a lot, that quote you posted was taken out of context and never said splitscreen it was being redundant about local multiplayer being LAN.
