Forums - Nintendo - Matt Peckham (PC World's Game On) still hates the Wii

Why are we still giving people like this our attention, again? They are the ones who believe in the Magical Market, after all, where the Wii's success is totally unrelated to the rest of the market and where the only games that "really" count are on 360 and PS3. Either that or they get paid by MS and/or Sony to believe that. Neither would surprise me, to be honest.

If he wants to rush down his yellow brick road of insanity and believe the Emerald City of Gaming at the end is loaded with generic rehashes of games released in the last 20 years only with better visuals, let him. The more we acknowledge the market tunnel vision of these people, the more they're going to rely on it, because any attention is good attention to them.

I agree with what he says because when I bought the Wii i wanted it to be a traditional video gaming experience with "new and innovative" controls.

For example, take Super Mario Galaxy... a traditional game with mostly traditional controls except for the fact that you could swing the wiimote and mario would spin.

Another example is Brawl, a game which i use Gamecube controllers to play.

What im trying to say is that back in 2006 when the Wii came out, Nintendo made a promise to make amazing games with innovative controls. They have changed that promise by saying "Nintendo just simply brings more smiles to more faces"

No, the controls are not the reason for the dearth of established franchises and traditional games on the Wii. The controls could be used in established and traditional (non-mini, non exceedingly low-budget) games. Those games aren't really coming out.

I saw his gripes as those from a fan's perspective, asking, 'where are the games I want to play?' It's valid, even if Nintendo's business model and strategy are lucrative. He doesn't question those, except perhaps by implication that Nintendo itself isn't producing many good traditional games.

His game preferences are subjective. He's not questioning the business model, and no one should use Nintendo's monetary success to counter an argument that, given its success, the Wii doesn't have enough 'regular' games for many video game fans. Many former core Nintendo video game fans.

So, wait... since when did "non-traditional games" mean "minigames and low-budget shovelware"? There's more to gaming than the traditional FPS/RPG/Action/Sports/Fighting genres, and the Wii has been providing quality games that break those moulds in droves.

What you really mean is, "Where are the new iterations of the same games I've been playing for the past decade?" Again, the Wii isn't about that, and if you don't like the new and inventive games coming out for Wii, then go play an HD console and feel comfortable in the fact that your established preconceptions won't be challenged in the slightest by the latest 1080P Halo/Final Fantasy/Ninja Gaiden clone.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Woah hold on Mario Boys , seems your out in full force on this thread . Despite what your personal opinions of this guy or his opinion he's isn't incorrect ( neither is he correct before you start crying ) it's his opinion and it is what it is .

So because he doesn't love Wii he's "arrogant and deluded" ? what gives Wii owners the right to think that they are the only reasonable , logicaly thinking people on the net because their console is in first place ?

Some people didn't like PS2 and loved GC/XBOX that didn't give us the right to say "Ha you deledud arrogant f**k , PS2 Rulez" .

I guess it can't be helped Mario boys cringe at the fact that not everyone loves Nintendo Wii.

Oh please they don't say that all and you know it million.

He's entitled to like whatever game he likes.  If the only games that are quality to him are FPS that's fine.  He's the one playing the games so we have no right to tell him what games he should enjoy and which he shouldn't.  The problem is that he hates the Wii so much he hopes it fails and writes bull shit that the Wii sales are going to drop.  It's really annoying because he doesn't really believe that he just hopes and prays it happens and writes controversial rubbish to get attention.  How can he suggest Wii sales will dry up because the same games are at the top.  Doesn't he have first hand evidence from New Super Mario Bros, Brain Training, Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS, etc to show that it is absolutely retarded to think Wii will sell because Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart have been top for a while?

Except he, uh, is incorrect. His issue isn't that he hates the Wii; it's that he thinks the Wii has no good games. And, as several posters have pointed out thus far, it does.

Imagine, me a professional, writes an article on apples.

Here's what I write.

Apples are red. Some red things are stupid.

That means anything to do with red is stupid.

Someone who is wearing a red shirt complains.

But he can't, becuase it's my opinion!

I know I've shunned you in an earlier post, so I'll say this:

Now you realize you have failed to understand exactly what the basic problem was with the article, and your credibility was thrown out the window due to your knee-jerk reaction, which causes you to always flame "marioboys" and blame them first. Hopefully you realize you were wrong, and that most people who are hating on this article aren't even Nintendo fanboys.

If you tell me the sky is green, I have the right to believe that I am more logical and reasonable than you are. However, we don't need such an extroidinary example to realize that, now do we?

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
