Yeah, the only thing I took from his list was that if you don't shoot stuff in a game, then it's not worth playing. Out of the huge laundry list of games he named for the PC and HD consoles, only two (LBP and NBA 09) aren't violent games.
Heck, if he wanted to name a list of promising violent Wii games in the remainder of '08, he could have said Tales of Symphonia, Deadly Creatures, Disaster, Call of Duty, Brothers in Arms: Double Time, Quantum of Solace, Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels, Rygar, and more. But, nope; I guess if a game doesn't render in 1080p and use a color palette that consists of, "5000 shades of brown," then it's not worth playing.
Way to go, Peckham, carving a bright, positive image for us gamers.
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I'm fed up with arrogant and ignorant deluded haters like this guy.

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
He's just mad because the market has spoken: graphics don't matter. Now he's actually going to have to put some work into reviewing his games.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

I think you guys are a bit unfair against him. He was just waking up from 2006...
For the most part, the gaming media takes one of three stances when it comes to the Wii ...
I can (honestly) say that I'm more annoyed by media outlets that ignore the Wii (for example the sites who will review the most obscure XBox 360 or PS3 games on day 1 yet haven't gotten around to reviewing 'Huge' Wii games) than by people who bash it ...
yeah i dont like the ignorers either

His blog reminds me of what people said about the Nintendo DS in 2003...

He talks usual shit, that "Hardcore" Game Journalist always write about the Wii. I think he still believes that Wii will be ignored by the 3rd party forever, and he did not realised that this did change.
| Garcian Smith said: And someone else completely misses the point of the Wii. Let me spell it out for this guy. The. Wii. Is. Not. About. Traditional. Games. The reason why there's so little in the way of established franchises on the Wii is because its revolutionary new method of control demands entirely new approaches to gaming in general. If all you're interested in playing is the same crap you've been playing since you were ten, then the Wii isn't for you. However, I, for one, will take Wario Land, Samba de Amigo, and de Blob any day over the generic laundry list of shooters he listed. |
No, the controls are not the reason for the dearth of established franchises and traditional games on the Wii. The controls could be used in established and traditional (non-mini, non exceedingly low-budget) games. Those games aren't really coming out.
I saw his gripes as those from a fan's perspective, asking, 'where are the games I want to play?' It's valid, even if Nintendo's business model and strategy are lucrative. He doesn't question those, except perhaps by implication that Nintendo itself isn't producing many good traditional games.
His game preferences are subjective. He's not questioning the business model, and no one should use Nintendo's monetary success to counter an argument that, given its success, the Wii doesn't have enough 'regular' games for many video game fans. Many former core Nintendo video game fans.
