Forums - Nintendo - Reggie says no hard drive...

@Resident Hazard: Whether WoW:s nickname is irony or not, what you just did caused me a good laugh, since the shelf analogy describes just how you are supposed to move your downloads/saves to an SD card.
If you want to argue, tell me first how many discs your DVD player can take at the same time, mine can use only one.

Actually, the shelf analogy doesn't describe the SD card slot.  It would if we could actually access games from there, but we can't.  Currently, my DVD shelf is packed, and my larger box sets simply rest on top of it.  Unlike games on the SD card on the Wii--these DVD's are still accessible and useable.

The point is, I have logical options for storing my physical media.  There are still no logical options for the Wii.  Put a game on an SD card, which is a nonsensically long process with the end result being a game that cannot be used until more time is wasted dragging it back to the Channels menu--OR delete said purchased media.  No one should ever defend Nintendo on this decision because it's every bit as stupid as... well...  the Virtual Boy.  When I saw there were USB slots on the Wii all those ages ago, I didn't care that the internal memory was a pathetic 512 megs (of which, only about 300 are available for use) because the USB ports meant that, in theory, a harddrive could be attached.  Who'd have thought Nintendo would be so stupid.

That's like making a movie in the vein of Aliens or Predator and foolishly making it PG-13...

Who cares. I want the damn SD cards system opened up. Allow it to play straight from cards and utilize larger than 4gb and all issues would be resolved.

Seem's like nintendo doesn't really care about the Wii anymore, its been out a year they have there money now, pretty sad, i read an interview an they said there weill not be much accessories coming up for wii, pretty sad though.

@Resident Hazard: Really? You can access your DVD:s straight from your shelf with your player? That's kind of neat.
I thought, that usually people take their discs off from the player and put them to shelf, which is the same as transferring to SD (which can be in the SD slot all the time), when accessing with the player equals being in the onboard memory. I have an carousel CD player, and changing between discs in the tray is the same thing as changing between the games in the onboard memory and taking a game into the shelf, is the same as transferring into the SD, there's really no difference in it.

What are you talking about? They said that they won't be giving a hardrive, but a better solution, which means they are adressing the problem. Also why would a company not care about one of the two products they sell?

I find it a bit ironic that you don't like rudeness when the majority of your posts that I've noticed are either blatantly rude, condescending, or deliberately ignorant (as when you responded to me initially).  That's why I questioned your username.  It's not like it's your given or "Christian" name and that it's sacred to you.

Now, you could have taken my response jokingly or simply ignored it as well.  Hypocritical a bit, aren't we in that you should reply to my "insulting" post with one that is, shall we say, verbally aggressive?

You think my posts are rude?

That's like reading Rol's posts and thinking he's serious.  Which he is.  Always.  ^_^

Nintendo wasn't stupid when they made the decided to forego a harddrive and they aren't stupid now for not having a "solution." It wasn't a big deal in the beginning so they could save a lot of money (smart move). It's becoming a minor deal now so they are thinking of the best way to satiate the small group of people complaining. As most have said they're probably going allow direct reading from the SD card (which would instantly solve the problem). At every turn they are saving money because they aren't doing stupid things like implementing expensive solutions. USB harddrives would also be a waste of money/resources to the consumer. A 4 gig SD card costs a grand total of $12 at an electronics warehouse. The cheapest harddrive is $45-$50 (without enclosure). Let me know when you fill up that 4 gigs because an 8 gig SD card costs only $25. This is not to mention the huge impact on the environment a hunk of metal has vs. an ounce of plastic.

So yes we should defend Nintendo for not wasting resources. And we should rally behind Reggie because he tells it like it is.

Talking about that I am thinking of buying a Sony 400 disc DVD changer so that I never have to worry about changing DVDs or CDs because I am very lazy about that.  Only problem is they don't sell them in Europe and the damn things are region coded so would be unable to play virtually all my DVDs.  Likewise everytime I want to take part in a Mario Kart GP I find it such a chore taking out Brawl from the Wii and putting Mario Kart in.  I wish next gen the Super Wii will have multiple discs or play off the hard drive like Wii Ware games.
