Forums - Sony - Problems connecting the PS3 to Internet

Hi guys.

Well today I finally got the ps3, but I have tried to connect it to the Internet but have failed to achieve it.

I am using a cable modem, and the ethernet cable. I have connected it, and the green light on the etherent's side on the ps3 begins to flash. I go to network and configure the network putting the following:

Method: easy

connection: wired

ip, DNS, Subnet mask, etc- automatic

MTU- automatic

Proxy server- do not use

Upnp- enabled

Then the connection is tested and it times out on the Ip adress assignation.

Please help me.

Thanks, FFirebrand_cloud

How many other computers do you have on your network? Try having only the PS3 connected and see if that makes a difference.

Dumb question, but are you having problems on your computer connecting?

Try a different ethernet cord if you have one.

Try a different slot in the modem too.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Have you tried power cycling the modem after connecting it to your PS3?

Is there any sort of security limiting the number of computers you can have on it or something?

I could never get my PS3 to connect directly to the modem, I got part of the stuff to work but not all of them would connect no matter what, i always had to use a router to connect. You could try the official Sony forums, they might be able to help.

Oh yeah, and if you are looking for games to get, buy Uncharted, and congrats on the PS3!

I'm having similar problems

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

If you aren't using one, get a router.

After plugging the ethernet cable into ps3 try unplugging the cable modems power cord and wait for 10 secodns then plug back in.

Now you're playing with power!
Now you're playing with power. Super Power!
Now you're playing with power. Portable Power!

Ok, this may not be what is wrong with yours but my PS3 always makes the router give it the 192.168.1.100 slot and if it doesn't get that, it refuses to cooperate. You might want to try shutting off all your other computers, resetting the router, and then turn on the PS3 before you turn on any other computers. That's what I do on the rare occasions (thank god for FW 2.00 - before that, my router and PS3 hated, and I mean HATED each other) I have network problems and it works most of the time.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
