Forums - General - microwaving food is not the same as cooking

Please people, let me get this straight. When you put your frozen food in the microwave, it is NOT the same as cooking, all you're doing is heating up your food. Now COOKING is when you turn on the stove, put a pan or pot on, turn your oil or what have you, add ingredients: i.e pepper, onions..., add protein, and so on and so forth... if you need further elaborations then please ask.

What do you call making a salad, sandwhich, or even something like steak carpaccio? No stove, heat, or anything like that there.

Also, what about microwave meals where you add butter or water?

thanks...?

unless of course you're cooking food with the microwave.

You prepare a salad... and I don't know what steak carpaccio is but surely you need to cook the steak in some way? (or does carpaccio mean raw steak?)

It is true that in a microwave the food does cook, but I suspect she means the other definition of cook in that to be a cook (proffession) you have make the food by mixing ingredients.

Personally I only use the microwave for defrosting things... usually bread, or occasionally if we had some left over lasagne or something I will heat it in the microwave for the day afters lunch.

What about when I damp my vegetables?

Having 40 words for essentially the same thing isn't needed. You should be able to use the word a bit out of its context.

I came in here expecting a serious discussion of how microwaves don't cook food by applying heat, but by vibrating the water molecules, which has adverse effects on the food.

But what I got was some good lulz.

Poor Commando.

The last time I used a microwave was in December. Haven't turned one on this year! I feel great. On December 16th I made a TV dinner sandwich.

what if it's to heat up left overs?
