Forums - Nintendo - I just downloaded and played Ys: Book I & II for VC

It's interesting to see how everybody gets owned by an old RPG... lol

See how the things have changed in the genre =P

why would anyone asume things are auto equiped??

I've played games where they ask you if you want to equip but no auto equip...

Oh yeah Zelda auto equiped the sword (but if you missed the cave you were just running in the world defenseless =)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

anyways Ys are the games I always wanted to play but never got my hands onto :/

Haha, auto-equip? Does that actually happen? I'm used to playing old rpg's where you have to equip everything yourself. I still remember playing Dragon Warrior 1(Dragon Quest) way back when and having to use the "stairs" command to go up and down stairs! haha ;-p

OT: I've been wanting to try out Ys for the longest time, I need to get it sometime and play it. Though, I just bought Sin and Punishment on VC, so I need to play that! I'm also playing through DQ3 and Secret of Mana on my Super Famicom as well, haha.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

great...glad to hear you are enjoying it

the YS series are the best

i started the game on Ys the ark of napishtim(my first in the series) and it was extremely enjoyable....i rate it as the best rpg ever created over FF9 although the gameplay is different and FF9 is much longer......but FF9 was my best rpg until i played Ys the ark of napishtim

NOTE: got FF9 2002,got Ys the ark of napishtim this year(2008)

The inventory system is a bit unusual compared to other RPGs, and the way the game starts somehow seems to suggest that all you need to do is buy the equipment.  I looked in my "equipment" section, saw the items there (which are represented by an icon next to the category), and assumed I was good to go.  There's no "equip" command or anything, which kind of throws you off.

since I haven't played the game, it's true that I shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Thanks for the clarification.

and thanks to the thread to point out the game is good even after many years^^ gonna have to try it someday.

Ys is awesome... I'm still on Book I, but i can't remember the last time I enjoyed playing a game this much... this game and Mario RPG are the creme of the crop of VC titles!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Downloaded it last week, in the Mine Depths in Book I right now. I've played the PC/NES versions, but this is definitely the definitive version of Ys I+II to play.

Gives me nostalgia. Ys III (SNES) was my first Ys game, i's sidescrolling a la Adventure of Link and actually has an attack button. Then I played Ys IV (Mask of the Sun), my first experience with traditional Ys gameplay...I go out onto the mountain path, run up to a blue slime thining there's an attack button and get bulldozed to death.

Good times.

Well, I just finished the game; took about 18 hours altogether. It's funny, even at level 61 the final boss was proving quite difficult, but at level 62 (the maximum) he was much, much easier.
