You have to just put your lips to the bottle if a black man is on stage. Its a Republican paradox that the mind can't adequately fathom.

That's just pure bull. The Republicans ended slavery for God's sake! The republican party championed civil rights from the beginning, it was the democrat party that stood in the way of that! (granted, there were some republicans that did too, but more republicans than democrats supported Civil Rights) I know several black republicans personally. Condi's black, and she has a very powerful position- Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas. The list goes on, like this partial list... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African_American_Republicans. The Republican party was the first to welcome blacks into leadership positions.

Just because most of the African American population is democrat does not mean that somehow the Republican party is exclusive. What you stated is pure BS.

Come on dude, lighten up.  And comparing the Republican party then to the Republican party now is just incorrect.  You are acting like the whole civil rights thing never happened.  The democrats were the southern party until LBJ and other dems spearheaded the Civil Rights movement.  Its very ironic to me that the party who freed the slaves was the same party who resisted giving minorities equal rights, but that is only because the party had fundamentally changed.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

They might have had a chance of winning by energizing the base like Bush did.

Sorry, I actually got called a racist the other day when somebody found out I was voting republican. I just hate that stereotype and I think it is generally incorrect. I'm not saying the Republicans are the same party they were before, but they're not as exclusive or even racist as some would make them out to be.

What have republicans done to ease race relations in the past 45 years?

I'm not calling them racist, but it's good to understand where the stereotype comes from.

Civil Rights Act of 1964 ring a bell?

By party

The original House version:[9]

  • Democratic Party: 152-96   (61%-39%)
  • Republican Party: 138-34   (80%-20%)

The Senate version:[9]

  • Democratic Party: 46-21   (69%-31%)
  • Republican Party: 27-6   (82%-18%)

The Senate version, voted on by the House:[9]

  • Democratic Party: 153-91   (63%-37%)
  • Republican Party: 136-35   (80%-20%)

Republicans favored the bill, on average 80.6% of the time, versus 64.3% of Democrat votes.

Fair Housing Act of 1968:

(Senate):

  • Passed 71-20
  • Democrats: 42-17 (71.2% For, 28.8% Against)
  • Republicans: 29-3 (90.6% For, 9.4% Against)

House:

  • Passed 250-172
  • Democrats: 150-88 (63% For, 37% Against)
  • Republicans: 100-84 (54.3% For, 45.6% Against)

Although closer, Republicans, on average, favored the vote 72.4% of the time, versus Dems at 67.1%.

So would you like to provide counter-evidence that Republicans have held back civil rights? The whole issue is that Democrats are for Welfare, preferential treatment of minorities, and other things that pander to them. None of those things have to do with "rights" - of which, the Democrats haven't always been for rights.
