That's the way I see it...

It was a real war. It was mean and mean spirited.
It left both combatants bruised and bloodied. Both made bad business decisions (No Nintendo Playstation, CD-I; 32X, Sega CD).
It left things in such a state that a new company came in and took over the market. Sega never recovered as a hardware company while it took Nintendo more than a decade to resume the top spot.

Aw man, the most heated battle ever... The outcome? Ninty, thankfully, defeated Sega. I salute Sony for finishing the job.

That was a good move actually.

It was the best time pretty much ever because you had two systems with VERY different, fantastic lineups -- even for the same "title" (e.g. SNES Aladdin or Shadowrun vs. GEN Aladdin or Shadowrun). And games had pretty random and creative concepts back then.
Now not only are almost all games low-risk-taking, but most games are the same on multiple platforms. And first-party importance has lost a lot of its impact too.
I wanted a Snes....all i got was a stupid Mega Drive. Damn you Sega!
You missed out on a lot of gems, colonel.
