Reviews can be incredibly useful for discovering games that you never had your eye on in the first place, that turned out to be true gems. That's how I found out about and subsequently bought Persona 3

But isn't that what previews and gameplay videos are for?

I don't have time to watch previews and gameplay videos of every single game, so when a game I've never heard of gets a surprisingly good score out of nowhere then I'll start looking through gameplay and reading reviews and giving the game the effort it deserved in the first place, but I just never knew to look for it.

Understandable...like I said I know your personal preference..If its something new and you don't know anything out reviews are something you look after.

But isn't that what trailers are for? I mean I knew nothing about the movie Dark Knight until I saw the trailer on TV and I was like WTF!!! I got to see it! It looks awesome...and it turned out to be awesome.

For some people, trailers are enough.  I on the other hand don't want to risk spending ten dollars on a couple hours that I might not enjoy.  So unless I have the company of a pretty girl with me, I want to know what to expect when I sit down in the theater.  I want to know how the movie stacks up and not just as a brief corporate montage trying to win me over.  All the positives and negatives will factor in my decision.  You don't get that with trailers, and with video games being in excess of fifty dollars of a movie ticket price, I am that much more discerning prior to the purchase.

But yes, Dark Knight was awesome.

I hadn't let them sway me until this week with Infinite Undiscovery. I was excited to have something new from Square on a console, and I had it reserved at Gamestop. I read the IGN review and didn't like what I heard. Then saw the next couple before release. I cancelled my reserve on release day, and moved all 60 bucks to Fallout 3, a game I will get regardless of review scores...at least I think.

AceRock owns one PS3, one PS Vita, and one PS4.

To be honest, good laughs.

I can't believe what they write/say sometimes. Just look at the complaints for Bionic Commando Rearmed, or even read/watch GameSpot's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption review. You'll see, it's hilarious (notice what he says about the ship interaction)!

Video game review scores, on the other hand, can sometimes give me an idea if the game turned out to be good or not, but I usually just rent a game and judge it myself. I'll be renting Too Human soon, and I'm sure it's going to be a heck of a ride despite the reviews on the game!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

It is impossible to base every game's quality on personal gaming experience because that would mean that you would have to buy every game. Firstly who has that kind of money to buy every game and second that is a huge waste of cash anyway. I listen to the actual reviews more then the score. If the written/video is actually in favor of the game with minor flaws and I have set interest in it already, I will buy it. From there I will decide if it is good or not.

I mean if a food critic tells you that he got food poisoning from a restaurant you don't go a see for your self now do you? You must weigh both the public's opinion of a game and your own impression of it, that way you can be a smart consumer like me lol. :)

Actually I can disagree with that statement highlighted in bold.

First you can do that. Because not every game is better than the other in my opinion. I can like underrated games that score low and like them and play them over high rated ones or ones that people recommend me to play.

I place every game equal. I don't pick this one is the best because everyone says its the best or if it gets a high score. If GTA IV got a good review...oh well, its not going to force me to purchase it or play it over WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2008. I will still play that wrestling game over that.

And yeah I understand about listening to personal opinions or public opinions on food or other sorts. But thats a completely different analogy. I'm talking about game reviews.

Edit: Also...that's what the news is for and people you hang out with, to tell you that about the food analogy.

Have you seriously bought everygame that tickled your interest in the slightest your entire gaming career? I find that highly unlikely. No one has that kind of time on there hands to sit and BUY then try every game they ever thought might be kind of cool. That is what my statement is saying.

Yeah, Dark Knight was the best of the best..

But funny thing is I don't buy games at launch or at full price tag ($60). I wait for the games to hit a bargain price and then go for the purchase. That's why reviews don't matter to me. Because considering now the game might be $10, what now factors to my buying decision is...is the game worth my time to play through. And thats what I look at from previews and gameplay videos. Will this $10 game purchase keep me tuned in.

I'm playing Chronicles of Riddick on the Xbox. It's a nice game I picked up for $5 at Gamestop/EBGames. It certainly is worth my $5 and my time.

The whole girlfriend situation well. I talk one girl I was dating to the movies, we couldn't decide what to see, but we ended up watching The Incredible Hulk...that was a somewhat movie and we enjoyed it. I saw the trailer on TV and was like. It looks okay and thats what made me suggest us to watch it at the movies at the time. $10 is a lot for a movie but it certainly is worth it, what your watching. Babylon A.D. was awesome and so was Pineapple Express!!! LOL

They mean nothing to me

PDC World championship darts just scored 3/10 in an OXM review and i'm still buying it

Well no...I haven't and I understand your point. But I'm not going to let reviewers decide whether I should play that game or not. Or even seperate the good and then bad.

Oblivion is trash. I know what I like and don't like. There is alot of I don't like games. I don't have the time on my hands, like you.

But from what your telling me. You listen to what reviewers have to say about a game and if its bad you don't buy it. And you don't have the time to purchase every game. Yes thats understandable, bro again.

I really don't care much for reviews. Some people don't know how to appreciate certain things and give it a low rating because they don't understand. I know there is crap out there, but certain games shouldn't be reviewed by people who aren't interested in those type of games in the first place. Then there's other people that just want to put games down because it's not on their system of choice, those are the most annoying.

Here's a list of some crap games, according to reviews, that I have and like:
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Too Human
Viking
Tenchu Z
Bullet Witch
Perfect Dark Zero
Folklore
Heavenly Sword

Here's a list of AAA games, according to reviews, that I like less than those crap games:
Grand Theft Auto 4
Halo 3
Oblivion

I'm going to buy Spectral Force 3 and Operation Darkness when they get cheaper. Still want to get Vampire Rain and Earth Defense Force

Another game that's coming out that might be on the a future crap list is Battle Fantasia. I have a feeling it's going to get crap reviews, but I still want it.
