Forums - General Discussion - One thing everyone seems to be ignoring about this election...

When all is said and done, we're either getting a black male as president or a white female as vice-president. Cool.

And, despite peoples' bitching and moaning about Bush, he is the only president to nominate a black man and a black woman to the third most powerful position in America, the Secretary of State.

Times, they are a changin'...

I don't think anyone has ignored the fact that the U.S. is about to make history by getting it's first black president.

Well, my main point was that if Obama loses, history is still going to be made. People also ignore the history Bush made with Powell and Rice.

To be truthful though, Pelosi one ups Rice since she is third in line to lead the country right after the President and the Vice President die or are deemed unfit to lead.

Yes, technically she's third in line (oh, the horror) but it's arguable that the Secretary of State actually has more power.

That's a deathstar sized if you've got there.

Don't forget all the Hispanic-American in Bush's Cabinet throughout the years:
Alberto Gonzales, Carlos Gutierrez and Mel Martinez.

and Asian-Americans: Elaine Chao.

All in all, he has had a very diverse entourage.

According to electoral-vote.com, Obama has +8 votes to win right now. That's in the "who knows?" range of polling.

The debates haven't even started yet. This election is still in its infancy. Let's at least wait until the GOP gets their convention before we start claiming Obama as the default victor.

Absolutely, I think it will be beneficial for the country both ways, and Palin's nomination as VP is historic as the 2nd woman VP.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

In 2006 the Democrats got the first female speaker of the house, the first Muslim in Congress (sworn in using Thomas Jefferson's Koran because he's a baller), and I think the first Buddhist in Congress too. And they already pulled the female veep candidate in 1984, but it didn't work out. Just saying...
