So... Why does Blu-ray disc capability just start mattering now? I mean, the PS3 has had it from the start.

I think you're putting too much faith in the holiday bump to push up sales of old games. GTA4 has run it's course. MGS4 has pushed through a majority of it's lifetime sales. While their sales will increase during the holidays, it won't suddenly make the 360 stop selling, or effect PS3 sales in any significant manner, and they certainly won't hurt the sales of NEW games for both systems.

Home isn't going to make me pay 400$ for a PS3. LBP isn't going to make me pay 400$ for a PS3. MGS4 and GTA4 aren't going to make me pay 400$ for a PS3. Blu-Ray certainly isn't.

PS: So what if the PS3 wins the 'HD Console War'. HD Consoles, in general, are selling poorly. They've marketed themselves into a box, and they don't know how to get out of it. In Japan sales of both consoles is negligible, and in America and Others they aren't stellar either.

PPS: Oh, and the Conduit is going to be HUGE!

There are plenty of reasons why the PS3 will have a good holiday season. Year-old ports (Bioshock) and old spring releases (Grand Theft Auto/Metal Gear Solid) aren't one of them.

Suggesting that Microsoft price the Arcade 360 at $150 to "win the HD console war" demonstrates a serious lack of business acumen.

Heres my unbiased opinion on 360 vs PS3 this fall

games overall- 360 has the edge imo, but PS3 has enough games that if you like fighting, action adventure, racing, beat em ups, FPS, and Sanbox games as your main genres you are fully covered. RPG fans and platformer fans have some stuff not too much.

games this fall- multiplats are good for both, exclusives are pretty good for PS3 and great for 360
exclusives (this is off the top of my head so its probably not a complete list)

Banjo Kazooie plus BK arcade, Viva Pinata 2 vs LBP, Rachet and Clank Quest for Booty- LBP is being pushed harder, I think they will be equally good, with BK arcade and continued community support for LBP, it should be a draw Factoring in Viva 2, which is a sequal vs booty which is more of an expansion, 360 has a bigger draw for kids, even though the gaming should be equally good

Gears 2 vs Resistance 2- Gears is the bigger game here.

Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Spectral Force 3 vs Valkeryie of the Battlefiled, Disgaea 3, Eternal Sonata- 360 has the upper hand here, but Disgaea and Valkeryie look really good as well. Sonata is a port of a so so 360 game.

Motor Storm Pacific Rift vs ???- As far as I know PS3 better racing games this fall

Fable 2 vs ???- 360 has the better WRPG, smae as last year (Mass Effect)

Other factors- Home, PS3 brandname, Blu ray, 360 price cut- Home is going to be useless imo. At least I could care less. I also care very little about Xbox live in general since I have to pay. PS3 at least is free, which would be a selling point mostly to hardcore sony fans who got a PS3 last year. With 360 price cut and PS3 Blu ray, 360 should sell on par or marginally better than PS3 in USA. With JRPGs and price cut in Japan, I expect 360 to sell at 30-75% as many consoles as PS3 this holiday season, depending on supply consraints and the popularity of the new IPs Infinte Undiscovery and Last Remenant. In EU, PS3 also has strong brand name and will handily outsell 360 most likely.

Overall PS3 should beat 360, but not by much. I expect the gap to be 4-4.5 Million by the end of the year.

Man i read those how PS3 is going to be awesome threads, and i just think that some sony fans are trying to prove to themselves that they bought a right product.
