Forums - Sony - Wait, seriously? Sony's Mascot is Sackboy?

Sony shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket. Let's say on the remote chance LPB flops and flops HARD, they then have to backtrack about him being their mascot. Just seems a little silly if you ask me.

 Sony has had too many games with far more interesting characters in its time. Nintendo did the right job with the NES by having the first game EVER be Mario/Duck hunt. Same for Sega with Sonic. Sony started out with Crash and dropped him when the franchise has sold more than 20 M.

Sony did not "drop" Crash.  They never owned him in the first place.

Makes you wonder what would have happened if Heavenly Sword was actually a hit. I remember seeing Nariku everywhere back even before the PS3 was launched.

Vivendi was not the main developer, it was Naughty Dog, and they are a subsidiary of Sony. Sony was publishing the game.

You don't get it. When Sega made Sonic as an mascot they wanted to give a message with it. Sonic is cool, sonic is badass...Playing with the megadrive/Genesis is cool.

Mario is not cool but a very friendly character where Nintendo wanted to say that Nintendo is child friendly. (Remember those Atari 2600 porn games).

Now about Master Chief. A guy in a suit who fights with aliens through whole the galaxy isn't that cool? They attracted with Master Chief a lot of gamers.

The sackboys...Well...They can be everything....They can be female or male...They can be brute...Kratos Sackboy, Nariko sackboy, Child friendly....Ratchet sackboy they can be fast, cute, cool, they can fly etc;..

The message behind it? Sony PS3 is for everyone?

Nope.. naughty dog sold the franchise.

Crash used to be epic though.. now it's not even coming out for the ps3.. the franchise has died.

 

In either case. Sony has not 1 mascot but rather many.

You're missing the point.  Universal Interactive, later to become Vivendi Universal, later to become Activision Blizzard, always owned the rights to the Crash Bandicoot IP.  The developer and even the publisher in this case have nothing to do with it.  Additionally, Sony didn't acquire Naughty Dog until 2001, long after the Crash franchise was created.  The company was around well before the Playstation even existed.

I like Sack Boy even though Kratos is better, Sack Boy is still nice.
