Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft fixes the Xbox: "Falcon" nearly in Prod.

Just a quick note from mercury news. Appearently there's a fairly strong redesign of the actual Xbox 360. As some know, the 360 has had new heatsinks and fans recently added to stem most of the issues, however, there's the 65nm chip.

It's an entirely new chipset thats smaller, cooler and overall better, which might be why the gave the RROD 3yr warranty. Between the Falcon chipset and heatsinks, it looks like the failure issues *should* be entirely over within a few weeks.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I think a few weeks is a little hopeful.

I hope this news is true, 65nm will certainly lower the heat created. I can't see it being in stores until just before "The Holiday Season"... I might have to hold off on my purchase of a new 360 and wait for this.

Am I the only one to remember the Atari Falcon?

When does the premium w/ HDMI ship?

Once this baby gets out, I'll consider picking up a 360 :)

Are they making the DVD-drive more quiet? If so I might sell my current working 360 and buy a new one. I also want HDMI, cause my tv doesn't work well with VGA, it can't display widescreen resolutions.

I guess this kinda sucks for us early adopters, but if 360 sells well, the 12 million "old model" consoles will only be a small portion of all the 360. Well, hopefully MS learns from their mistakes and manifactures a more robust console next time around.

Good news for 360 wanna be owners and maybe those that will end up getting replacements under the new warranty.

Have you tried the component cables?

There is no premium with HDMI, where did that come from?

I can't wait until those are released so I can finally get an Elite. Then I can move away from VGA onto HDMI! :D

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

There are rumors that, with the redesign, Microsoft may implement HDMI across all SKUs. So, with 65nm tech, the motherboards might be the same for all systems.

Once 65nm tech is released, the price will drop at least 50 bucks, and they will procure my moneys. This should be around the fall, so more and more AAA games will have arrived. Mazal Tov!
