I seriously think the PS3's biggest enemy is it's little brother. As long as Sony allows the PS2 to survive it will continue to cut into PS3 sales. I know they are trying to ease the profit loss by allowing the Ps2 to tread on but in the end the PS2 is restricting sales.

A solution to this would be allow the PS2 to go on for a tad longer, end of this fiscal year. After that canel all production of the machine. Add Backward Compatability to the PS3 again, standard. Bite the bullet till the cost to produce the machine comes down again.

No, they really need the exra profit right now, maybe at least when the ps3 makes a profit. Or when the ps2 just dies naturally.

Yea if they stuggle to string together profitable quarters with the PS2 raking in the money it would get really ugly once they kill it.

every PS2 sold now is a new PS2 owner who just *may* upgrade to Ps3 some point in its remaining 8.5 years

so in a way its a win/win situation for SONY

sales from PS2 systems probably makes them more money in the short term. plus people wont buy a PS3 if they cant get a PS2

But the PS3's big brother is in it's way, it needs to MOVE.

How else could this be remedied?
