Forums - Microsoft - X360 Elite HD-DVD

First off, there is no such model in the market, its just my wish to see. Now tell me, wouldnt it be nice to see an Xbox 360 model at $500 price tag with everything that X360 Elite includes and but also an internal HD-DVD drive on par with PS3's new 599 model, but for $100 less.

Of course I assume that the core X360 model will be $250-300 and the premium model will be lowered to $350 or something like this!

I'd rather they just lower the price of the add-on drive to $150 and $120 as the cost of manufacturing them decreases.  It doesn't look likely that HD DVD will become the dominant format, so I'd rather buy a 360 without one.  (I'm not sure Blu-ray will become dominant either, but HD DVD looks even less likely.)

Seeing as the Elite is only $20 cheaper than the 60Gb PS3, they would have to seriously reduce the cost of the unit to incorporate an HD-DVD ($150 worth) for only $20 more.

I reckon they aren't making a profit on the Elite model, so I doubt they would be able to include an HD-DVD for only $20 more.

Also, I doubt MS would go down the road as to choose what next gen DVD format to incorporate in their system. There's one thing having an external drive....but another incorporating it in the system.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

HD-DVD players are much cheaper then Blurays, and the Xbox won't be using it for games. You might as well get a separate player. Either way, I'm one who thinks that M$ will give up on HD-DVD for digital distribution.

I read somewhere that Microsoft makes $131 profit off of every Elite sold. Even if that is true it wouldn't make sense creating another SKU. I would rather a price drop anyhow!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think a $131 is on the low side actually Godbless. As of November of last year MS was making nearly $77 in profit off of each premium 360 sold.

The ps3 is $499.99 check gamestop.I'd think for the same price I would get a ps3 since well, it has ablu-ray player and its the same price.

Oh you meant the 80gig model!! If it brings a game which it does, I dont know since the elite has a bigger HDD but knowing that I can upgrade it from 80gigs to 200 for a 10buks would cost to mcuh, Id probably buy the 360 cuz it has an installed hd dvd player, and it well has a bigger HDD with some good games.

I think they shoud drop the Elite 360 to $450 and include the hd add on.

It's not gonna happen. It's obvious that MS is not willing to back HD DVD as much as Sony is backing Blu Ray (for obvious reasons). It would have made the format war more interesting, but I don't think it helps the 360 in the console war much.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
