Forums - Microsoft - Do you think the 360 'deserved' to be selling much better?

Aren`t you the veteran of the Sony Defence Force ? you look familiar...

Anyway, you`re trying to say that copying the succes of the ps2,that sold over 120 million units,is wrong? The ps2 wasn`t dependent on the 3`rd parties? gta, dmc, burnout, resident, etc sau HELLO .

3`rd parties used to make money off the ps2 and now they are making money off the 360. Not seeing any problem with that,YOU seem to have a problem with that. And don`t tell me that Sony didn`t pay 3`rd parties for exclusivity on the ps2 so that their games will not touch the xbox and gamecube.

In my eyes, the 360 is the next ps2. The pricecut in september will convince many that it`s true.

Nah, he's a new sockpuppet for someone who's nickname was getting too known around.

As usual, we'll see him post around here spinning everything sony's way and linking every bit of bad pr to be found on the web. Meanwhile he'll post feel-better threads on the sony forums and some propaganda on the gaming forum. It's the usual shtick for sony defense force sockpuppets, we've had several already.

I think the RROD problem is to blame for the 360 not having the sales it deserves. In my opinion is likely caused Microsoft to have to put off at least one price drop because of the costs of honoring warranties on their older systems. It also caused severe damage to the console's reputation that has likely cost it sales in the millions as well.

With that being said I feel that the PS3 doesn't deserve its sales because all of its mistakes were made on purpose months/years before the system was released. The RROD on the other hand I can only assume Microsoft wasn't aware of the problem or at the very least not of the problem's size.

They may not have known about the RRoD for a fact, but any engineer knows the risks of rushing to market without proper quality tests and MS was not ignorant of this.  Sony's mistakes did not include hidden costs to the consumer such as the many HW faults of the 360 caused to those consumers.  It's silly, IMO, to say that Sony doesn't deserve its sales based on the $600 price tag when the market was able to react naturally to it and give it exactly the appropriate response, as opposed to the hidden minefield of RRoDs and disc scratching.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

I think the only place they really "deserve" more is Japan, they tried pretty hard to get those jrpgs.

In the same vein though, PS3 deserves more recognition in America (i.e. more than ~5 mil LTD sales).

You can probably say this for any console that's not the gen leader.

Are you serious? Do you really think Microsoft doesn't have anything lined up for 2009? They usually don't announce things three years in advance, a la Sony.

This is the same stuff that was said last year. "Microsoft blew its wad! They have nothing left!" Now all the 360 owners are complaining about having too many games to play.

I didn't say they have nothing I said show me what they have coming in 09. The one game they do have coming that excites me is Alan Wake And for the record lots of people said lots of stuff last year like PS3 would never outsell the the 360 however 2008 has proven that prediction to be: yup you guessed it: FALSE!!!!! It has 7 out of the 8 months this year.

And guess what, everyone said M$ didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at taking a significant amount of marketshare from Sony.  And guess what, yep you guessed it: FALSE!!!

I'm happy to see that compared to the original Xbox, 360 is on track to sell more units. It's a console that has some great games and will continue to get some great games.

Good stuff.

Well, I think they really want us gamers to enjoy doing what we like the most: gaming. They've given us the best way to do so with Xbox Live. I find that the best gaming experience is on it, they really give us all the options we could think of in order to really exploit 100% of a game: achievements, online chatting for the best online games, an amazing choice of downloadable content, etc.

Let's not forget about the Live Arcade. This summer's line-up is a fine example of them bringing us what we prefer the most: good and enjoyable games to play alone, or together. If it's true, I also think that by buying ''3rd party exclusivity deals'', they allow us to play games that are worth playing and that everyone should be able to play anyway. The games line-up is also excellent, with games like Tales of Vesperia, Halo 3, Ninja Gaiden II, Gears of War, Crackdown, Dead Rising, etc.

In that regard, I think they deserve a good spot in the gaming world, as they are also trying to destroy the 3rd party exclusivity deals and bringing everyone together. What's wrong with that? Power to the consumer, and they're allowing this to happen.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

MS is getting what they deserve in a sense. In the end they do not deserve to fail, rather they deserve to be a strong 3rd place in this current gen. They forced Sony's hand, and demanded that Sony improve in certain areas such as online. This is a good thing. Yet MS has done so much wrong to me as a consumer that I no longer wish to tolerate their market leadership.

MS came in a year early, sounds good from afar, but it turns out the system is faulty to a large degree. MS knew they would have no chance in winning unless they came out first and got the jump on the developers. This is true. What they did not anticipate is there hardware breaking down WW. Now this just makes them seem like a bad company that doesnt create quality hardware. I personally beileve they would have been better off just releasing along side the competition and taking the 3rd back seat like a man. At least then we would have a quality console to talk about.

Now MS will have to suffer as they are forced to watch a system that costs more, has less games, and came out a whole year later passes them by. This does not bode well for any future for MS in the console business.

And what did M$ actually contribute of their own besides: yup you guessed it: throwing money EVERYWHERE. Did they develop any of their own stuff? yup you guessed it: NOPE!!!

They contributed to the number of awesome games I am able to play on their system.  They have taken good care of my gaming needs.  Even when my hardware broke, the repair process was quick and painless.

Yep, I agree. A product deserves to sell what it sells.

When the PS3 was $600, few games, no rumble, lacking online service, etc., it sold exactly what it deserved. Now that they have addressed those problems, they are selling much higher. In Japan, they aren't coming out with any jRPGs on PS3, and it's selling what it deserves. For "hardcore" gamers in Japan, jRPGs are like shooters here - a requirement for a console to have decent sales.

As Sky Render said, if Xbox 360 is trying to be like the PS2, the PS2 is still out there and selling. The fact that the first generation of Xbox 360s were defective by design will have an impact for a while, especially when there is an alternative that has most of the same games that people like to play.

Nintendo found out the standard controller was a barrier to many potential customers in the interactive entertainment industry and put out something easier to understand.  They are getting the sales they deserve as well.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

@CGI Chill out. The average gamer does not care how or why said game is playable on their system. No one should give a damn. Why do you? Idk if you're insecure about the whole thing or what but its only a video game console.

Back to the topic at hand: MS is doing a pretty reasonable job this gen. For the effort it should get a bit more sales but the laissez-faire rule of economics is someting I believe in. Now in the end MS may come in third place but I think they are getting more recognition as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Lets face it, if the 360 was released at the same time as the Wii and PS3 it would have been trounced even if the hardware issue had been dealt with. However, even with the inexcusable hardware issue, MS needed the headstart to get the exposure they needed. They got it and the 360 is doing better than most ppl would have thought.

Now while even if the 360 comes in 3rd this gen in terms of hardware sales (sry I still think 360 will beat PS3 in software) MS will have gained a lot more than just money from this gen. While the fanboys on everyside will be up to tears/joy the fact of the matter is the 360 can still be declared a success in a lot of ways from a business standpoint.

If you ask ppl on here who own 360s most would prolly say that apart from the RROD (if they got it) said user is probably happy with their purchase.
