Forums - Nintendo - Why do you think Captain Rainbow bombed?

We are talking about first day sales here, of a game that's propably not supposed to sell in big numbers. Only time will tell how this game performs.

But there is atleast one thing in the game, that usually don't sell in Japan, such as the main character being an ex-superhero (in Japan, anime characters that are considered as weak, sell a lot better).

And on top of that, the title haven't had marketing, the genre is what you could call niche these days (even SMG and TP underperfomed in Japan) and it's a new IP.

As for the games story, i think it has similarities with X-men comics, since all the characters seem to be problematic with their past, just like Nick(?)/Captain Rainbow apparently is.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

By the way, Captain Rainbow reminds me A LOT of Chibi Robo. Graphics, music, presentation, gameplay "voices", etc. I think the audience for Chibi Robo may want to give this game a chance.

@ramuji: What do you think about the game? Is it a game that the Japanese audience likes? And was there any hype behind this game there?

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Wait, people were expecting this to sell better than around 4k copies in it's first day?

Really?

Nothing ill about the game, but, have you seen it? It's about as far from mainstream as you can possibly get.

Did anyone really expect this game to sell in the first place? I doubt Nintendo even expected it too.

I think this was just a game they wanted to make for fun.

I find the game very intriguing so far. Like I said, it reminds me very much of Chibi Robo. How well did Chibi Robo sell?

It seems to be filled with the odd type of humor that I would expect Japanese gamers to enjoy, such as the "nekid woman tree", which I've already stumbled across, and quirky character personalities. The rumors I've read about Katherine's dildo also seem ... interesting?

I buy two monthly gaming magazines that focus on Nintendo products, and I remember they both gave moderate preview coverage of Captain Rainbow a month or two ago. I would expect the weekly promotional videos via the Nintendo Channel to have had a greater impact.

I would like to emphasize again that I've only played an hour so far, and I'm still stuck as Nick unable to transform into Captain Rainbow. So, there may well be a significant amount of action coming later (and the "Actioventure" designation certainly implies so). But, it feels like an adventure game.

The game is about fetish porn, what do you expect?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

CAN we honestly say that the game's bombed already? From what I've read it met its sales expectations, which rather negates "bomba" status. Furthermore, it's only been one day: plenty of Wii games in particular seem to be on a slow burn cycle.

Now, none of this is to say that it'll be a million seller. But it's a low-budget game from Skip: I don't think Nintendo's expecting massive sales from the title, but it will be satisfied with a few hundred thousand units shipped.

wow i did not even know this was out arelady, it seems like Nintendo just did not care about this title at all.
