Forums - Sony - 1UP a bit harsh on Disgaea 3?

disgea is a great srpg that gameplay and art style direction are unique to make it stand on its own.

i wonder what they gave to echochrome.

Basically reviewers thought they were getting mighty clever with their letter grading systems. They were not instituted, because they were fundamentally more sound then the systems they were using. They were instituted to make even poor marks sound less objectionable to fans and developers alike. Metacritic did not fall for it, and their linear extrapolation, or true extrapolation exposes the shenanigans for what they are complete bullshit. They are so vague as to be worthless.

This is how Metacritic is probably converting the bullshit five letter system into a true one hundred points system. For those that are terribly confused.

A+ 94-100
A 87-93
A- 80-86
B+ 73-79
B 66-72
B- 60-65
C+ 53-59
C 46-52
C- 40-45
D+ 33-39
D 26-32
D- 20-25
F+ 13-19
F 6-12
F- 0-5

The reviewers are in the wrong for trying to hide their empty meaning behind an empty system. They took a hundred point system cut away 59 points so that everyone can be better. Think about it there is no game according to them that is worse then 59 points on a traditional scale. Which should mean that there is no such thing as an unplayable game. Just average and slightly below average.

Pure brilliance until someone unwittingly mangled their nonsense. They had a perfect scheme a system that is not so offensive to most everyone. So that fanboys wouldn't lash them for giving out real scores, and the marketing departments would continue to give them money. Can you say Sell Out.

The irony is that Metacritic actually gives a minor bump in their system. Then again they might not be assuming a seven point spread for the plus column being too much and swinging that with a six instead of the seven, and giving the seven at the lower end of the spectrum. Anyway it is not their fault. They are just logically extrapolating a system that was intended to be illogical.

Every B+ rated game on 1UP received an 83 on Metacritic. I checked 6 games this way.

So I guess it is safe to assume, certain number scores no longer exist. Maybe they should contact 1UP and ask what it "may" equate to. If not, don't bother adding it.

ToV, Wiifit, along with many others were equated to 83 with B+ scores on Metacritic. It seems to be set scores, not to mention it seems they use the lowest possible number for these scores. Why can't two B+ rated games have different numbers scores?

Something is definitely wrong here. I seriously think they should stop using these scores if they do not properly factor into the number scores they use.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Why would you guys think that an F would be a 59 or lower? If F is the lowest score then it would equal close to 0. A perfect game A+ would be 100 right? If Gamespot gave Too Human a 5.5 wouldnt that be like a C? Thats right in the middle. The system is dumb and confusing... Most of us here could come up with something a 1000 times better.

SSJ12 said he messaged them, he is waiting for a response, if any.

The main problem I have with this though is that when the letter score is factored into a site like Gamerankings, it will without a doubt be higher than the 67 Metacritic used.

JRPGs are not for everyone. I personally could not get into these type of games.

Damn, I should make a thread about Bionic Commando Rearmed and the stupid arguments reviewers used to bring down the score (no jump button? lolololol). o_o

I don't want to be mean or anything, but in the HD world now, seeing sprites for your characters looks a bit too old-school. I guess it's really a game that will appeal to the fanbase of Disgaea only (which don't mind Final Fantasy Tactics style of graphics).

Though, if the gameplay is good for a SRPG, then yeah, it was a bit harsh to downgrade the score for its graphics. It's 1UP, so what can you expect?

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Very confusing.

Too human gets a C-. Gamerankings rates it as a 60, Metacritic rates it as a 47.

Disgaea 3 gets a B-. Metacritic rates it as a 67, if Too Human is anything to go by does that mean Gamerankings will rate is as an 80?
