Forums - Sony - Would a FFVII remake overshadow FFXIII exclusivity loss?

If Sony ever makes multi-disc PS1 games possible via the PS1 emulator on the PS3 and PSP, and various publishers decide to re-release those classics via PSN (FF7,8,9, Grandia, just to name a couple), the PS3 will take the RPG cake, in my opinion.

PS1 RPGs were... awesome. If I could pay $20 for them digitally, rather than $35-40 on eBay, AND play them on my PSP... that would be RPG heaven.

Yes, but it won't happen. No matter what they did with the game the fanboys would complain, and if they did nothing at all the fanboys would complain about that too. Square hates dealing with stupid fanboys as much as anyone else, and so they'll make the winning move: don't play.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I'd have to say no and no. Loosing FFXIII exclusivity was this gen's most epic fail imo.

If It were exclusive to the PS3 a resounding yes.

But unlike remaking FF1-FFVI it will be much more difficult to remake FFVII. A remake of that game would almost like creating a AAA game from scratch. Yes you would have the story and maps and artdesign (including monsters) already done, but there are many aspects of the game that if Square just improved the graphics many new to the game would consider parts of it broken. For example the snowboarding or the chocobo racing. Both innovative at the time, but now just plain bad. Unless made as a PSP game I think this game would be a very expensive endeavor for Square.

If done right though this would be my reason to buy a PS3. Most definitely.

Do you think a PS3 remake of FFVII would make up for the heartbreaking loss of exclusivity of FFXIII for PS3 owners? And does FF Vesus XIII remaining exclusive help close up the wound to us PS3 owners?

Your Thoughts?

Final Fantasy with PS3 graphics?...of course it would rock the foundation of RPG gaming period. This isn't even a question.

Forgive my ignorance but what consumer is being "heart broken" by FFXIII being on the 360.

PS3 owners shouldnt be - they are still getting the game
360 owners shouldnt be - they are also getting this game

Anyone who says rubbish like GTA4 would have been better if it was PS3 exclusive is being unrealistic. Maybe the graphics might have been a tiny bit better due to the larger texture capacity but I'm sure the 360 version could have been better if all time had been spent working on its version as well. Either way we are talking about a tiny percentage here or there anyhow. Bare in mind that for a game like FFVIII no 360 owner would have any issue with it appearin on multiple disks, 10 disk loads (hypothetically!) over the course of a 60 hour experience is nothing espeicially if you are switching disks anyway to play other games.

Surely this announcement is simple business sense and the only people to be disheartened are the Sony marketing machine. Having *rough estimate at time of release* twice the console audience to sell a fantastic game is going to make you more cash.

Square Enix have even more incentive to produce a fantastic sequel, lets all celebrate and just look forward to a *hopefully* cracking game.

One of the reasons that I congratulate Kojima because it wasn't about the money but the product and that's why imho it is the greatest game ever created

Please...the only reason you congratulate Kojima is because of the fact that you're a loyalist and Sony's walls would come crumbling down without MGS4.

A remake or an FF7-2 would without a doubt if exclusive.
As for the second question..... *sniff* *sniff*..... a little......

LOL.

RRoD.

a 30% failure rate its harder than loosing exclusitiy

its not like the ps3 isn't getting the game.

Typical Sony fanboy argument. Can you guys get anymore ignorant?

^Excuse me? I just plain wrote that Sony made the biggest mistake of this gen and that warrants a Sony fanboy tag? Wtf?
