Microsoft has no one to blame, but themselves. As a pure gaming device, the 360 should potentially be the best, but a few things make it undesirable in the eyes of consumers. RRoD and Blu-Ray victory. Without those two balldrops, I believe the 360 would have had a much better chance of ending up in second this gen.

The best games, worst sales argument is like saying Jamaica did much better than China in the Olympics because Usain Bolt shattered 3 world records, while China has won 51 gold medals compared to Jamaica's 6.

The 360 will fend off the ps3 until the next xbox launches, after that its gonna be an uphill struggle for sony, 360 sales are going to obliterate origional xbox sales so therefore the next xbox will strengthen the xbox brand even more

It'll be an uphill battle for the next Xbox against the install base of the PS3.

I think MS wants comfortable profits from 360 for a while though, so unless 360 is getting totally owned in a year or two, MS will wait before launching another console too quickly.  (it may well be running out of gas already, though.)

I bet MS spends way more for each console and game sale now than they did in the previous generation, given their moneyhatting strategy and such.

The 360 hasn't been in charge since not long after Wii launched. It remained in charge of HD until Sony got their act together and has had to fight tooth and nail to remain ahead for as long as possible against a more expensive console with less extensive games library.

Right now I'd say the MS is truly in 3rd place from a control perspective right now, globally, and i just about hanging onto control in US for HD consoles, but with PS3 matching there for weekly sales earlier in its cycle its barely in control there.

So no, not really, unless you wear special rose glasses for 360 and put your fingers in your ears... does your friend do this? It might be a clue.
