It'll be an uphill battle for the next Xbox against the install base of the PS3.
I think MS wants comfortable profits from 360 for a while though, so unless 360 is getting totally owned in a year or two, MS will wait before launching another console too quickly. (it may well be running out of gas already, though.)
I bet MS spends way more for each console and game sale now than they did in the previous generation, given their moneyhatting strategy and such.
