Forums - Gaming - Tales of Vesperia Review Watch

Great thread Zen, although I do disagree with you about Tales Of being niche. The Tales franchise is the third biggest JRPG franchise behind Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. With both IU and ToV coming up, my wallet is going to get pounded...

...and just to be clear, I believe Eurogamer, and Edge magazine will both consign to giving Disgaea 3 and Tales of Vesperia 6/10s.

They gave MGS4 8/10s....6/10 is what you should expect.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Tales fans will be interested to know that all the skits are voiced. Which is amazing considering their frequency.

I have plans on playing this game in the future, but this feature right here is turning me off big time from wanting to sit through another 70+ hours Tales game, no matter how great the gameplay is. The voice acting in the demo I found atocious. Thank god the skits are optional.

Optional only if you don't want the Mr.Fluffy-Cat-Eater-Steak-Moose title that requires you watch 4 skits in various places throughout the world before certain events and after others happen.

I have no interest in those titles anymore. When I realised you were basically always powerful enough to go straight through the game without breaking a grind sweat, I stopped bothering with recipes, titles and I rode the animal all throughout the overworld. As long as you fight inside dungeons and get better weapons, it's a cakewalk. I'm talking about Symphonia by the way. I haven't played the others to compare, but I hear it's very similiar.

I figured you were talking about ToS.  I still don't understand the point of recipes in that game at all.  You never needed them... ever.

how has tales of symphonia 2 reviewed?

They've actually added over half a dozen new classes alone.

You can now stack geoblocks (what were Geo symbols) and there's a whole crapload of stuff to go with that.

...etc.

I don't want to spell out all the changes from the past games, but there's a lot of new stuff in there.

yeah that's what I mean, I've only seen gameplay videos and most of what you just said can't be known just by watching videos.

That's what they need to catch interest these days though.  Most people don't care that there's a new Masked Super Hero monster class (think Prism Rangers), but Disgaea fans like me think it's awesome.  What many people do care about, sadly, is how shiny and explosive the game looks.

Eurogamer and Edge base their scores on innovation, right?

The purpose of recipies is to speed up random battles. It really helps when grinding if you cook after each battle and get your TP/HP back up, so you don't have to go refresh yourself in town. It basically speeds up grinding.

So they say. Frankly, I'm not a fan. It seems like they are trying to change the way games are made with their reviews, punishing games that stick to the same old stuff, but better. It's ideological reviewing, as the reviews aren't based on fun, but rather, "Does your game help progress the industry."

Which means both Disgaea and Tales are going to get F'd in the A when it comes to those 2 reviewers.  I'm unsure though, sometimes it seems that they just have different tastes.  They gave Siren an 8, which I don't understand if they're going on innovation.

I say bullshit considering Halo 3 and GTA 4 scores.
