Forums - Sales - The NPD alliance thing.

I can't remeber where I heard it (or if I was dreaming or something) but is it true that NPD is combining with two other sales tracking firms to provide WW sales data monthly?

If this is true can someone provide a link, and will they report worldwide sales for hardware/software next month instead of US only?

NPD, Enterbrain, GfK form global alliance

Charts data specialists Enterbrain, NPD and Gfk Chart-Track have announced a worldwide partnership.

The companies, which individually specialise in sales data from Japan, the US and the UK, will report global sales based on point-of-sale data in the monthly Top Global Markets Report.

"The video games business has become increasingly global, with the majority of the publishers releasing games in multiple markets," commented Anita Frazier, industry analyst for The NPD Group.

"The US as the world's largest market will be able to view and compare sales for the first time outside of their own market."

Users will be able to track titles, unit sales and share, as well as dollar sales and revenue share in the three regions.

"This partnership represents a great opportunity to benefit not only our clients but the industry as a whole by providing a comprehensive, industry-supported view of sales across the three largest video game markets," offered John Pinder, MD of GfK Chart-Track.

The first Top Global Markets Report reveals that Grand Theft Auto IV is the biggest seller this year to date, with a total 6,293,000 units sold despite only being released in two of the three monitored regions.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has sold 5,433,000 units, Mario Kart Wii 4,697,000 units and Wii Fit 3,604,000 units in the three regions combined.

The fifth biggest seller this year is Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock with 3,475,000 units.

That would be great, haven't heard anything though.

O, it's true? Nice. This should really help with our "Others" numbers.

thanks zexen_lowe

It's a collabo, yes, but there's no telling if they will make their numbers public. It might just be to offer a better product to their clients who already pay for data. Would be nice if it makes sales data more open though.

They're just tracking NA, UK, and Japan

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

They are missing out on a quite a few other countries though.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Yeah, they're missing out on a lot of "Others" countries, South America, etc.

But it's probably in response to VGC. Or maybe not. Who knows.
