If the PS3 does, indeed, have an 8-year lifespan... Doesn't the same apply there, Kwaad? Basically, you're praising PS3 for having a long lifespan, but bashing the GameCube for having an extended lifespan? I thought longevity was a good thing, wasn't it? Wait, no... it's bad when it applies to Nintendo.

PS1 - 562weeks GC - 281weeks Uhh... yeah... GameCube from first day on shelves, to last day on shelves... 281 weeks. PlayStation from first day on shelves, to last day on shelves... 562 weeks. PlayStation2 from first day on shelves, to current. 362 weeks. Uhh... I'd have to say that's kinda... crappy longevity.

Ah, but from a programmers perspective, it may as well be the same thing as a Wii... isn't that what you said? I mean, they don't sell many DS Phats in Japan anymore, but people still make games for DS, don't they? You just said that, because the Wii is the same as GameCube, five people can make a new (according to you, bad) game every 18 months. So that's possible after only five years. You're also telling me that PS3 will last 8 years, which means that for over 1/3 of its shelf live, the same will be applied to PS3. You've *ALSO* said that it's going to take a few years for PS3 to pick up steam. Meaning, using only your own words and opinions, the PS3 is only going to have a window of 3 years where it's actually a viable console.

I dont need to reply to that. But they do it for the PS2. Why wouldnt they for the PS3. My point is. The Wii is already doing it. I mean 8 years as in, it will be sony's flagship model. Well actually more like 5 but still. I doubt the PS3 will be canned before 8. What ever happend to you talking about the GamePubes Longevity's?

I said "extended lifespan." Because every person who buys a Wii is really buying a GameCube according to you, the GameCube's lifespan has been extended to include the lifespan of the Wii. And yeah, you kinda do need to reply to that :) If longevity is good, then it's good for all platforms.

No, the Wii is not a extended Wii. The Wii is a ripoff. :P A extended GameCube, would be a slot to slide in all 4 of the front bays, and install a simple OS that would use the Wiimotes, on the GameCube for like 100$ more. That's an extended lifespan. By your defination. I can see the PS5 running the same 'system' as the PS3. The Cell is meant to expand.

Hey, I was talking A) from a programmer's perspective, and B) using *your* definitions. This is all by your logic, not mine. So tell me, is a long lifespan for a hardware a good thing or a bad thing? And if two machines have the same hardware, are they the same machine or not? Or do GBA games not work in GBA SP?

a GBA SP is a GBA. I'm not wasteing my time typing what I'm thinking.

Exactly the Wii is VERY VERY similar.
a GBA SP is a GBA.
Given those two quotes as context... What is the difference between GameCube and Wii? I mean, from a developer's perspective. You said five guys can program the exact same game in 18 months... why isn't it effectively the same machine?
